I'm not spending my LP on a phantasm so I can spin it in a station.
It's gimped.
CCP swore up and down that this was balance... well look at market prices now.
Obviously the rest of the game doesn't agree.

Yep, it's one of those useless collector ships. Nice to know it's cheap, I'll have to add one to my collection.

What makes it "gimped" exactly? the shield HP nerf was a bit of a kick in the **** but it far from nerfed it into uselessness and it still has a good chunk of EHP and decent damage output.
So its not quite as uber as it was before the shields got hit with the nerfbat but its still pretty damn good.

Why was it's EHP nerfed in the first place?

I've recently gone Sansha ships, IE going sideskills with Caldari and have taken a look at the Sansha ships while doing so. The Nightmare seems to be as stable missionrunner as ever, and probably perfoming good for pvp anyone willing to risk it.
However, after looking into the Phantasm and Succubus for small scale pvp it was mixed feelings; the Succubus seem to field a good shield tank and good dps to go with it, I havn't tried it out but it seems to be a slow powerhouse of a frig.
The Phantasm however, doesn't seem to be that great at anything, infact I compared some of the Phantasm Battleclinic fits as well as own one with a shield tanked Harbinger and while the speed slightly benefited the Phantasm, as well as the extra tracking, they seem to perform about the same and I don't see quite how it's cost would warrant it's use in current state.
That said, however there might be awesome fits or ways to use it I have missed that make it awesome, if anyone does have that I gladly take any input or advice about it.

The phantasm feels like an almost awesome ship because it IS an almost awesome ship.
The main obstacle being the other ships in its class just completely outshine their counter-parts in what they can do, but the phantasm does not.
Ya dig?
Those angel ships sure are wtfoverpowered though, and i honestly think that yes they should be.
The phantasm should be just as overpowered, it's a top of the line pirate ship. It's harder to obtain, after all.
I mean we are talking about some broken ass hybrid tech that the four empires deemed so scary they needed to team up to destroy it.
When you see a cynabal, dramiel, machariel you go "primary that sucker, quick!"
When you see a phantasm you go "lol phantasm, kill it"

Nice try, but fail. If English stuck to its guns you'd be onto something..... but it doesn't.
It's is a contraction for it is or it has.
Its is a possessive pronoun meaning, more or less, of it or belonging to it.
And there is absolutely, positively, no such word as its'.

Stuff what I want the Phantasm to have:
Moar faster/agile (Nowhere near Cynabal fast, but faster or at least more agile than right now). Moar cargohold. Moar cap regen. Extra lowslot.
Then we're good. Putting the 'irate' into 'Pirate' |

More agility. The ship really handles like a pig in space. Speed is crap but it's the bad agility that turns me off.
Tank/cap. You need a cap booster on the ship resulting in a tank that's pretty much equal to a cynabal. Except Cynabals get a lot more perks to go with it.
A fix for me would be more PG so I could fit 2 med neuts and a med cap booster. That would at least make it better without changing what it's supposed to do.

The phantasm is indeed utter junk. Personally, I'd like it to get an optimal bonus, thus making it a turbo-zealot for sniping.
I really hate that the phantasm does almost identical to my beam zealot with pulses. 500 damage is AWESOME at 30km (even better when you can push out to 100km). At 7.5km ... its kinda pathetic. Sure you CAN get decent range with scorch, but why bother compared to a beam-zealot ?
Every time I try and come up with a decent fit I end up coming out with something the plenty of stuff already does.
If you want to go in close then you can kiss your ass goodbye. You are no-where near fast or durable enough to do this (deimos syndrome). On the other hand you can't get good range with beams either. Leave at home.

Considering I fly this thing more or less everyday, let me elaborate on what the solution should be. It does decent scorch damage in the point-zone of 20-25km, and has the two utility highs for whatever. However, there is no grid remaining after the required MWD/booster/heavy pulse/extender to fit anything legitimate in those two slots, no way to get even a single medium neut in there. The big problem is that it lacks the speed to remain in point range but out of web/scram range, and is outclassed in every way in this range area by the cynabal. Another issue is that IT IS MISSING A SLOT. WTF CCP.
My solution: add 10m3 drone bandwidth/bay for a full set of light drones. add a lowslot (it's missing one, you know it, I know it, CCP knows it) either increase shield HP to increase survivability in the point-zone, or significantly increase speed or agility to have better control over the range in an engagement give it enough extra fitting to actually use the two high slots
As it stands, it makes a decent midrange DPS ship but it lacks the something special that should set it apart from a Zealot. The tracking bonus is very nice, I have no issues with the range we're made to engage in, but the ship lacks power in its 'role'. ________ Chicago players channel: 'Windy City'

I endorse this solution.
3x HS and the extra drone bandwidth would take it to around 500 dps at point range (just under with warriors, just over with hobgobs), which is on par with a FMP zealot. The zealot gets more range with scorch, but the phantasm gets better tracking, which is fair IMHO.
The drones and fitting for neuts would definitely make the phantasm stand out against similar sized targets. Yes, you'd have to get in close for the neuts, but the combination of 600ish dps with INMF and creditable neuting power would make it pretty fearsome inside its engagement range. Neuts are a good way to balance this I think, since they sure do give an edge above similar ships.
Extra EHP, speed and agility completes the package. With all of that, you could happily go with scram and web and MELT the hell out of similarly sized and EHPed targets.
You sir, get a gold star.

Ed: What, it'd be better than a Zealot then? REALLY? OHLYSIHT!
That too would work fine for me. Basically it needs more fitting and a more dps. However you go about it, thats fine by me. The extra turret is more reliable, but less flexable.

I agree ... i would swap one high slot for one low slot anyday... need more power grid for that med neuts / nos , and sansha / blood ships are very very slow and not agile ... needs speed /agility buff i think i am fine with 3 small drone bay ... ashimmu needs mediums tho. Eternal Will. |

yeah junk ship.
option could be...
+1 Low +1 turret better capacitor
DPS isn't great and only 3 lows limits it's ability to fit damage mods & tracking enhancers
cant active tank because of Laser cap use, cap boosters maybe but the cargo is pretty small too.
cant make a respectible passive shield tank because of laser cap use..
So.. shield buffer tank was the best option I came up with ~70k EHP, but it blows the sig radius out big time :( and needed T2 extender rigs which cost too much to make it an easy option most of the time. T1 was more like 60k EHP

+1 for the lowslot and drones but the grid is fine - if you can bear to fit focused mediums (which I can) then you get 2 medium neuts and a cap booster which is nasty to BC and below if they do get near you.
Still hits to 20+ with scorch with focused mediums so I reckon that's enough to not insist on Heavy pulses, especially when you factor in the bonus the tracking is amazing on focused mediums.

I use this fit for 0.0 ratting^^
3 megapulse t2, 1 small nos(can go c type) 1 faction cloak named mwd, 3 large shield extenders t2, 2 deadspace amps 2 faction heat sinks , 1 power diag t2
rigs: EM/THERM/Shield pudge all t2
3 light drones t2
Anyways, for pvp I prob swapped around the Shield regen rig for a extender rig, swapped the amps for 1 invu t2 + warp disruptor t2 For more soloish action I prob swapped for warp distuptor+web

when Cynabals don't have any problem fitting 4x 425mm Autocannon T2, fitting 3x heavy pulses on a Phantasm shouldn't be too hard.
