Has anyone brought up the idea of CCP selling in game items for real world money like:
Ships attribute changes special missions character appearance change race change special corporation/alliance icons ship decals etc.
I think this would be great and CCP could potentially make alot of money from it.

I think you can, or at least could. Not sure why you would. In general though, no, because then whoever has daddy's wallet would have the coolest stuff. Not cool.

Most of those are already in place. You can pay to change toon portrait. Can pay real money and sell plex for isk, which can then be used to buy ships, toons, and anything else that's available for isk.

The fact that everyone has the same chances to get what he wants is one of many things that makes EVE great. With micro transactions, some rich mofo could come along with his Dominix with chrome all over it and some uberpowerful drones and 999 atributes on everything. No.
CCP also said, I think at least, a few times that they are against MTs.
Oh and, if this happens, I'll be leaving EVE too.

Edited by: Ti''anla on 31/05/2010 23:05:42 The question, I think, is what parts of EVE would have no effect on the greater game if opened to micro-transactions.
For instance, indeed as someone said, the portraits. I'd support any little things like that, just to bring in a bit more money for the game, but.. yeah, this is the sort of thing you make bloody certain does not touch any game mechanics, at all, ever.
So yeah, ships, missions, and attributes are right out.

Yes, people could make a lot of money from it, for a week or two, then half of the subscribers would leave. Being able to buy equipment in an MMO is just wrong, nothing sets you out from other people when real world money is brought into question, and yes there are pilot licences but they cost a lot for not a lot in the global scheme of things.

Oh I completely agree. I guess I should have stated "things that don't directly impact" EVE's gameplay.
I don't think it would hurt to pay for simply putting a "chrome" finish on your Domi as long as it didn't affect it's stats. It might be actually cool to see a gold plated Hyperion :) or Nyx.
Good responses though. It is clear that it might not be a good idea hehe.

Edited by: James Tritanius on 01/06/2010 00:40:25 Micro transactions only make sense in games that you do not have to pay to play. Subscription fee + money for uncommon game items is reediculouhs.
