Does anyone here play EvE on a notebook running an ATI HD5470 Mobility Radeon? Im just wondering, as I have to travel for work for a few months this summer, and need an affordable notebook that can run eve fairly well. The Dell that I am looking at has the aforementioned card. Any input would be great.

Can't claim to be a hardware expert but uh, it should be able to run it nicely.
Also, I think half a gazillion people are gonna say Dell sucks soon >,>

The 5450/5470 and Mobility are much mroe capable since hte X1000 series so you can expect quite good performance out of them and possibly running EVE on high shader and still being playable in high density zones.
I would not advise fleet fights on it under intesive situations but it should hold you over. ------------------------------------- The system issues man. |

A 5470 should be more than enough. From what I can tell it's roughly similar in power to my 9600M GT which runs the graphics on mediumish settings without any lag. As long as it has enough RAM/processor speed, it will be fine.

Hehe, i'm not going to be one of them for sure. I don't have nothing against Dell but just my favorite is Toshiba Qosmio and it comes with NVIDIA GeForce GTS 360M. Just personal opinion :)

It's just the ones raging over poor customer support... which is a damn shame because I can't really get any other high-end laptop other than Alienware >,<

My biggest issue is that I havn't really kept up with the videocard market in the last few years, and I am not really sure how the notebook cards stack up against their desktop counterparts. I know there will always be a gap between comparable cards in desktops and notebooks, I was just hoping to find someone who had used this card to get some real world feedback.
I am assuming that since this card is at least 2 (3?) generations ahead of my desktop card, a GF 8600 GTS, it will perform at least as well as my desktop.

HD5470 is approaching mid-range territory, so you can't go terribly wrong. ATI do the best laptop/mobility GPU's on the market, so regardless you've got a good-un there. Not to mention it's their new line of cards, so you'll be able to enjoy all the spunky goodness of DirectX 11 (just don't expect massively high frame rate if you want to enjoy DirectX 11 games). ---

Edited by: Shinnen on 31/05/2010 23:27:48 I think you will sustain 60 FPS with everything turned to low and textures on medium.
I get about 45 with my x1600...
