We feel Empire and State supporters have lacked for a means of friendly competition amongst ourselves..amongst the faithful and their allies; a way to improve our tactical abilities and to also strengthen and grow the bonds of friendship amongst allies.
In this spirit The Khanid Provincial Vanguard is pleased to announce the First Annual Khanid Kingdom Tournament of Champions!
Opening ceremonies to be held next Saturday, June the 12 @ 21:00 EVE Standard Time, with the games continuing over the next several weeks!
Join our friends and allies in the region (and beyond) in a combat tournament designed to test your abilities in small-team (2v2) tactical combat!
This triple-tournament will feature ladder-style advancement in three separate ship divisions, culminating in three separate teams of champions - each holders of the "Tournament of Champions" Chalices for their combat division. This tiered approach will allow pilots of all skill levels and financial means to participate at a level they are comfortable with. Pilots may of course compete in all three divisions if they so choose. General rules can be found below, with more detailed information to be sent to all participants.
Invitations are currently being sent to a number of friendly alliances, corporations, and individuals. We would also like to mention that in the spirit of cooperation and friendship, we are pleased to also extend invitations to all friends and allies of the Kingdom, be they Imperial, State, or other.
Team submissions are due no later than next Thursday, June 10, at 23:59 EVE Standard Time. Submit your team registration to Silas Vitalia via evemail and bearing acceptance, you will be mailed a rules and welcome package detailing tournament specifics!
We congratulate all participants in advance, and look forard to a spirited competition!

Dear Miss Vitalia,
I have received word about this upcoming tournament and fully support it. Ordo Magna did not have the time to organise yet another Annual Tamplar Tournament so I am glad more people are willing to make an effort to organise such a great event.
Unfortunately I will be on a planetary trip during those days which will take about 3 days. Because of that I won't be able to participate.
I would like to wish all participants good luck. And again my compliments to Miss Vitalia and the Khanid Provincial Vanguard for organising this tournament.

We are recieving requests from several pilots unable to make the opening day of the tournament. If this continues and we have enough teams in the same situation we will allow them to begin later in the week. As there will be plenty of rounds of combat for the participants, this will not effect any results.
Thank you for the well wishes, those who have replied so far and sent me private messages of support!
-----A reminder that registering teams must include which combat divisions they intend to compete in, 1,2,3 or any combination of them. -----

Can I assume that there are rules in place that do not allow ships to have crew with the exception of pod pilots?

Rules, no. Participants are however free to conduct any ship modifications in this regard that they find appropriate, and are encouraged to do so.
In addition the slower nature of small team combat tends to allow for much longer notice to a ship's crew before the destruction of a vessel. Pod pilots in these sorts of fights generally tend to have a fair bit of warning before a ship is destroyed, and can appropriately eject/jettison their living crew members in nearly all cases.
As an aside my ships for these sorts of events tend to operate with a very small 'skeleton' crew, as the majority of ship's maintenance/long term care issues are unnecessary for this sort of combat. The majority of KPV ship crews are all-volunteer as well, and generous insurance packages are allotted for all crew members. The current value of ISK in planetary economies means that the small amount we spend (a few thousand ISK) on a missile is enough to keep a typical planetside family fed and housed for nearly a year, so ship crew families are very generously taken care of should the unfortunate happen.

Additonally:
Participants who have not mailed in yet, please format part of your mail in this way:
A)Names of Participants B) Divisions you will compete in 1 = frig/cruiser 2 = cruiser/battlecruiser 3 = battlecruiser/battleship
Example: Team: Silas Vitalia & Tiberius Wolff Divisions: 1, 2, 3
This will vastly speed up organizing the ladders during the week. Thank you in advance!

With no travel out of system required nor any services for extended operation, scanning and the like required, I think I'll be able to have ships operational with a mere skeleton crew. There are a few capable slave volunteers eager to prove their faith.
Since there is but a single capsuleer in Angel Wing, I would require the services of a wingman or would need to serve as a wingman myself. ____

Provided the number of teams works out correctly, each team will have at least a single match on the opening day of ceremonies (This coming Saturday @ 21:00 EVE). Opponant information will be mailed out the evening prior to the tournament, after registration is over and brackets are made. No 'times' for the first day's fighting will be given, we'll go in order and get them done as they happen. If we have an excessive ammount I will have another referee run an additional set of fights.
Surviving teams on Saturday will be assigned a new opponant and have roughly a week to schedule with their opponants and fight.
Losers on Saturday will ALSO be assigned new opponants to compete in a separate bracket for losing teams.
The semi-finals and finals will be held publicly at a date and time tbd so that more spectators can watch.
Specific details regarding locations and fight procedures are only being sent to participants.
As it stands right now we have a good level of interest in division 1 fights (frig/cruiser), with less in the more expensive divisions. If I don't pull enough teams in Division 2 and 3, I will probably fold them to be held at another event.
We've got 5 more days of signups so there's plenty of time left !

A glorious opening day of combat for the tournament! Results/brief match descriptions below.
TO ALL ENTRANTS who could not make the opening ceremonies and had to postpone their matches: you are still contenders and we will be scheduling your matches over the coming week. Those still interested, it is NOT too late to enter the field, simply contact myself with your team name and requested combat division(s), and we will move you into the lineup. Over 1 billion in prizes to be given! Free entrance into the tournament!
Day 1, Division 1 [frigate/cruiser] Results: [KPV]Dagrin Kargis (Punisher) & [A-WIN] Merdaneth (Arbitrator) def. [KPV] Derek Schaeffer (Rifter) & [KPV] Silas Vitalia (Maller)
Both frigates fell relatively early in the match; Dagrin's punisher withering under the combined dps of ranged beams from the Maller and fire from the Rupture, as the Rupture was engulfed in the significant drone damage of the Arbitrator. An Arbitrator/Maller duel soon followed, with the Maller's ranged medium beams proving innefective against the extremely heavy shield tank of the arbitrator. With no way to remove the drone damage the Maller was destroyed in short order, giving the victory to Dagrin and Merdaneth.
[LDIS] Hamish Grayson (Rifter) & [LDIS] Vikarion (Thorax) def. [DRS] Tomi Zai (Maulus) & [DRS] Scorch Mor'Tayle (Caracal)
An extremely fast/elusive Caracal/Maulus team eventually proved to be unable to withstand the significant damage output of a "glass cannon" Thorax and Rifter combo.
Day 1, Division 2 [Cruiser/BC] Results:
[KPV]Derek Schaeffer (Thorax) & [KPV] Silas Vitalia (Harbinger) def. [LDIS] Hamish Grayson (Thorax) & [LDIS] Vikarion (Harbinger)
An exciting mirror match! Similar pulse setups for both Harbingers, but a sniper fit for Derek's Thorax turned out to be decisive. Hamish' Thorax fell first in the match, and the two Harbingers dueled with Derek providing significant ranged damage. Silas' Harbinger was destroyed next just as Vikarion was entering into structure, and Derek was able to maintain range and finish the vessel off.
[DRS] Tomi Zai (Drake) & [DRS] Scorch Mor'Tayle (Caracal) will REMATCH [KPV]Dagrin Kargis (Harbinger) & [A-WIN] Merdaneth (Arbitrator)
An extremely close match eventually ended in a drake/arbitrator duel at close range, with no winner called before time was up. Although the Drake would have most likely -eventually- broken the extremely impressive shield tank of the arbitrator, in the interest of keeping the event moving, a rematch will be scheduled between these teams.
Day 1, Division 3 [bc/bs] Results: LDIS] Hamish Grayson (Drake) & [LDIS] Vikarion (Armageddon) def. [KPV] Derek Schaeffer (Myrmidon) & [KPV] Silas Vitalia (Abaddon)
The sole battleship match of the opening day was decidedly one-sided! The LDIS team fitted for damage and -extreme- tracking disruption instead of defenses, which proved to be very effective. Despite Derek's triple-repper fit mrmydon, the dps output of the LDIS team proved to be quite significant. Silas' Abaddon was rendered completely useless due to the extreme and effective amount of tracking disruption, making even pulse laser shots towards the large armageddon completely useless. It was only a matter of time before the large armor tank was whittled down, giving Hamish and Vikarion their 2nd victory of the day.
Wonderful fights from all competitors on the opening day!
Expect more reports as the matches continue, and don't forget we are still allowing entrants into the tournament!
