I keep seeing references to Remote Rep Domi's.
Why arn't other Battleships ever mentioned. I can't see why a domi is any better than any other Battleship at remote repping. Am I missing something?
Also people always talk about a Domis "monstor" tank, but, again, hasn't every other Battleship got just as good of a monster tank if suitably fitted give or take a few thousand EHP.
And finally I see lots of references to a neut Domi. Why not a nuet Armageddon or Neut Raven?
TIA

Dominix is "versatile done right" (as opposed to Minmatar ships which are "versatile" in that there are dozens of fittings which don't quite work). It's got a nice big capacitor, plenty of slots for modules in high, medium and low banks. It has a generous powergrid and CPU. It has a huge drone bay. It can be shield tanked or armour tanked.
The "monster" tank of a Dominix probably relates to mission-running, since the Dominix can fit a decent armour tank with two Large Armor Repairer IIs, a bunch of resists, and a few cap rechargers in the mid slots, without impacting upon its firepower (which comes mainly from drones).

Because they don't have gigantic drone bays and drone bonuses.

Because it can deal 450+DPS... with no guns fitted. xD
This means you get the slots and grid/cpu for the <insert favorite utility mod here>.
I'd like to see a Maelstrom with a full rack of Neuts put out more than 240 DPS.

A "monster" tank requires A LOT of powergrid to fit, which means there's not much left to fit guns, or, in the case of the other battleships, once you fit the guns to be able to do battleship-amounts of DPS, there's not much powergrid left for the tank. It's not a matter of slots available, it's the fact that some Gallente ships can do serious DPS with just drones (which don't take up grid at all).
Energy neutralizers are sort of in the same category: they take up a high slot (which means you can't fit a gun in that slot), and they require quite a bit of powergrid to fit. A gun or missile boat would have to reduce its DPS to accomodate the neutralizers.
Remote repair is done with other battleships; not sure why it's not mentioned. Some alliances even have standardized fits for RRBS that allow for various BS'es.

Because a domi can fit a monster tank, several remote reppers, several energy transfers and has (drone) DPS while being cap stable ...

Imagine a ship that can change from DPS, to shield reps, to armor reps, back to DPS, then to sensor dampening, to ECM, do a little mining and back to DPS all without changing a single module or docking up.
OK I'm over stating it a little, but if you're out on an armor tanking remote rep operation it is entirely possible for you to field a full flight of sentry drones for DPS. You can recall them and deploy light/medium DPS drones to take out an annoying frigate, switch to armor rep drones to rep up a little more on a particularly hard-hit gang mate, then swap back to DPS with the sentries. In the meantime your remote armor reps and remote cap transfers or NOS/Neuts in the high slots haven't missed a beat.
That's the Dominix. 375m3 of drone bay and 125m3 of drone bandwidth.(There were a few people who used to call them "pocket-carriers" a while back).
The Ishtar, Sin and Navy Dominix all have 125m3 of drone bandwidth. The Navy Domi and Sin both have larger drone bays (400m3) and the Ishtar starts out with 175m3 at level 1, increasing by 50m3 per level to 375m3 at Level 5 HAC.

Don't forget the Gila and the Rattlesnake, both have huge drone bays now and are just as flexible as the Sin, Dominix, and Ishtar.

Thinking about the Domi without thinking about the drone bay, is like wondering why Chuck Norris gets so much attention when his casseroles are nothing to write home about.
Just sayin'.

Having big drone bays does not make a ship versatile. In fact none of the other ships you mentioned even come close to a domi in terms of versatility. The drones help, but without the 6/5/7 slot layout that lets the domi armor OR shield tank, or the gun bonus that lets it be a blaster boat if need be, you lose the vast majority of the versatility that the domi gets.
Ishtar and gila are more or less the same, the difference in fitting has little effect on actual performance and the main difference comes from which types of drones you use. The rattlesnake can either be fit with a crazy passive tank, or with a shield tank + damage mods for torps (which btw is inferior to the domi as a gank ship anyway)
The sin is just a domi that costs 10X as much and can't field a full rack of guns.
As for the awesomeness of RR domis, I've recently started using a fit that has no local reps and tanks 1k DPS for every additional domi that puts RR on it. It's pretty ridiculous. |
