Edited by: Sharp Blue on 11/12/2004 12:02:17 I have about 50mil to buy and fit a new Gallente ship. I am considering a thorax. Is this a good choice and what should I fit it with best for combat.
Also, if I wanted to go fully mining/production what is good.
Many thanks

Thorax is the best Gallante cruiser for both mining and combat.

Try the good old named frigate neutrons, 1600mm plate etc setup on a Thorax. Theres a thread about it somewhere, I know it has Blasterax in the title.

Edited by: KingsGambit on 11/12/2004 12:25:10 The Thorax is an excellent choice of ship, but with your budget, you might also consider the Brutix, the Gallente BattleCruiser. Both are excellent for combat, and both are fair miners if you wise to do that also. The Retreiver would outmine the Thorax if you want a dedicated mining ship, though both the Brutix and Megathron would outmine it slightly, with only the Coveter outmining them all.
Whichever of the two you go with, a good setup would likely include lots of Ion Blasters (good trade off of damage, tracking, range, fittings and cap usage compared to Electron/Neutron Blasters). Both have ample low slots for a nice armour tank (2 hardeners, 1-2 repairers), and the Brutix gets a bonus to armour repair effectiveness. The Thorax gets a bonus to remove the MWD Cap penalty, and with the upcoming removal of the shield penalty from the modules, an MWD is also a good option. Fit a web for pesky frigs, a 7.5km scrambler for PvP, and don't forget to get some cap recharge on there, nor to fill your drone bay. Med Scout drones are very effective against frigates and cruisers, and depending on your skills in drones, it would be better to control more medium drones than half the number of heavy ones.
Depending on your skills also, the Dominix makes a natural progression for a drone specialist, and the Megathron is the natural choice of blaster lovers everywhere (Hence Blasterthron). Both make excellent miners, the Dominix for it's ability to field a formidable offense and defense and with Harvestor drones (not worth buying) can almost match an Apoc for mining yield.

Whatever you decide on just make sure you have the skills to operate it well and always fit suitable items to it, i always sigh when i see a killmail from some1 who fitted basic or cruiser items to a battleship.
Also never take it anywhere risky unless you definatly can hold your own or know what your doing, bigger/better/badass ships dont save you unless you have the skills to accompany it. __________________________________________

Take a few million and buy 10 Incursuses (Incursi?). Fit one out for combat. Go out and find someone experienced in combat to fight. Lose the Incursus. Learn from your mistakes. Go back and get the next one off the pile. Fit it out for combat. Rinse, repeat, until you no longer lose your Incursus. Then go buy a Thorax and fit it out for combat, using the experience that you've gained losing all those Incursuses. Now go out and be deadly.
