After having set up my own little PI empire, I casually browsed other planets while going to the nearby major trade hub. I see this lava planet and notice that not only one, but two players have been building multiple heavy metal extractors next to each other, and I decide to run my own planet scan on heavy metal deposits.
This is what I see.
Now, maybe my Planetology skill is not high enough (got basic lvl. 4 and advanced lvl. 3) or these people must know something that I do not, because it seems like they have been building their extractors way off the "center" of this deposit (the white part) and are not getting full bang for their money.
I better train up Planetology a bit more to see how horrible placed my own extractors might be.

A lot of players will be investing in the few million or less it takes to try PI out to see if they like it and to learn it. I've seen some strange set-ups too.

The heat map you see is never 100% accurate. There are a lot of false echos in it. More at lower skills of course.
I doubt you will have perfect representation of what is there even with max skills. Some of those "hot spots" will be bogus, even with good skills.
They may, in fact, be seeing something you don't, and it could be more accurate.

Your skills are quite good. Not many new characters are charisma-heavy, which makes you think twice before training these skills. Supposing just Planetology 2-3, he probably just sees a red spot all over the zone, without your level of detail.

Say, how do you have the game display other people's installations, anyhow? I remember seeing an option for it waay back on Sisi, but.. can't seem to find it now, and don't seem to see any by default x.x

last time I checked you need to find another players CC and click on it. You will then get a grayed out version of their network.

You can usually see them when having one of the resource filters selected, then clicking on their command center marker will show their whole network.
