As an Amarr I seem to be stuck with my main damage as EM and my secondary as Thermal. I'm in a 0.0 Corp with Guristas rats now, which appear to be resistant to EM and vulnerable to Kinetic and Thermal.
Is there any way to specialize my lasers at all with mods into more Thermal damage than EM? Is there any other things I could do to help my dps vs. Guristas?
Thanks! I'm killing them alright but it takes a good while at this point.
Note: I am currently flying an Apoc with Pulse Lasers (tech 1, can't use tech 2 yet), Cap Mods and Rigs, and a mix of tank and damage mods in the lows (Armor stuff + Heat Sinks and Tracking Enhancers). I'm using Hammerhead II's for drones. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CAPSLOCK, BECAUSE SOMETIMES REGULAR FONT JUST, ISN'T, GOOD ENOUGH. |

Only thing I can come up with is go for shortrange as closerange crystals do more thermal damage than radio for example...
Im ratting in angel space which is even more hopeless as Amarr.
My tip would be that you maybe should switch to an armageddon with the larger dronebay and pack 5 heavy drones in there. That would probably increase dps slightly but thats just me theorycrafting. :) "When I become God, everyone dies." |

Not a bad idea honestly. The Bonuses of the Apoc is Capacitor and Range. The geddon is Capacitor and Turrent Speed Increase. Range isn't really that useful I'm finding while ratting compared to when I was say, Missioning. In general the rats are close together and only 15-30 KM away to getting into multifrequency range isn't much of an issue even with Pulse Guns.
If I were to swap to heavy drones, am I correct in thinking I would want the Kinetic Damage drones for Guristas? I think those are Caldari? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CAPSLOCK, BECAUSE SOMETIMES REGULAR FONT JUST, ISN'T, GOOD ENOUGH. |

Edited by: Zaqar on 10/06/2010 11:44:13 Sentries on the 'geddon would probably be better. Also you could try Conflag/Gleam. They do more thermal than any other crystal, but the tracking penalty might make your actual DPS lower than before... edit: and they cost money =/
And yes, kinetic for Guristas.

Geddon with 5 Wasp II will do fine vs Guristas. If you cant use the T2 heavy, try 4x heavy + 5x T2 lights, as the T1 heavies will struggle to hit the elite frigates that warp scram/web you.

Sacrilege is out of the question I think. I don't really have ANY missile skills yet and honestly prefer the laser style, so that would be quite a bit of training and changing just for a good ratting boat.
The Geddon sounds like a good choice. One thing I'm wondering is will sentries be able to hit frigate rats? Some of the frigates like to warp scram me, so would running 4 sentries and having 5 light drones in the drone bay be a good idea for if that happens? Or can Sentries hit frigates at close range?
I looked up Conflag ammo and that looks like an awesome think to work towards. Sadly I'm a long ways away from tech 2 large guns, but its a goal.
Also, a Nightmare is a ship I've looked into in the near future. Anyone have a good setup for that for ratting vs. Guristas?

I dont know if I would rat with a Nightmare; they're rather slow and they're very attractive gank targets.
But they're reasonably effective vs Guristas in missions.
The key is to fit range mods so that you can use the better damage type crystals - these not only do more raw DPS, but a higher proportion of thermal damage. Replacing at least 1 heat sink with a Tracking Enhancer II will give good results. My tachyon-fitted Nightmare can use Multifreq out to around 45Km.

They have the same signature as large guns, so thy're only good for popping frigs from distance as they approach you. Originally by: CAPSLOCKBROKE Some of the frigates like to warp scram me, so would running 4 sentries and having 5 light drones in the drone bay be a good idea for if that happens?
Yep!

Again, if you go with sentries, use 4 sentries and 5 light drones, Wardens won't do anything to elite frigates

Dunno what you gunnery skills are like, but you may be better off if you just fit projectile turrets onto an Apoc for the short term. Phased Plasma L does 40 thermal and 8 kinetic damage.
Fake edit: I typed 'turrents' the first time. Dear god.

Interesting suggestion but not only do I really like the laser style, I don't have any skills in projectile turrents so I'de have to spend a few weeks to get those up and running when I should really just focus on the skills leading up to Tech 2 Beam and Pulse Lasers =)
Also ya I'm gonna run 4 heavies/sentries and 5 light drones. Pull the lights out if I got frigates I can't hit. Thanks all for the advice! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CAPSLOCK, BECAUSE SOMETIMES REGULAR FONT JUST, ISN'T, GOOD ENOUGH. |

Use tachyon beams with multi-frequency crystals for maximum thermal damage (thermal damage drops with increasing crystal range, radio crystals yield only EM), which is a secondary weakness of Guristas.

No need for that where I am ratting actually. Getting into Pulse Multifrequency range takes 0-20 seconds out here for my ship, and I can hit them perfectly fine from that range and even closer np.
I understand what your saying however, and I believe it would be valid in missions where the targets are further out and spread different directions. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CAPSLOCK, BECAUSE SOMETIMES REGULAR FONT JUST, ISN'T, GOOD ENOUGH. |
