i expose some evidence of distance of light year. (just for background)
irl. the radius of the galaxy is up to 100.000 light year (ly.)
ig. this distance is used for capital jump, by example, for cross all 0.0 from north to south, it take around 150 ly.
so the radius of the known space of new eden is only 150ly.
1/ Does the known galaxy represent a very small part of the eve galaxy, or it a small galaxy ? :)
in w-space we are at 2147483647 jump from everywhere, but in act this number is a informatic limit wich is egal to 2^30.
and we can see in the pos screen management at the tab "control tower" the distance between our control tower in jump and light year. from our cotnrol tower, we are at 1307.5 ly from our high sec pos (10 times the radius of known new eden, but only 1%of a normal galaxy radius, so i assume that sleepers are on our galaxy. i saw also another w-space pos wich is at only 82.3ly of us (only half of new eden radius).
2/ i'm pretty sure that sleepers ar in the same galaxy of new eden just in looking distance, but is there is a secret map in ly between all sleepers systems? or the "ly" informations are false ?
3/ other guy in w-space have different value ?

There's this concept called Suspension of Disbelief. It is where one stops being so critical of all the small details and accepts what is presented to allow the story to progress and make sense. This is often time seen in theater where one must perform this act to become fully immersed in the play at hand.
My suggestion, apply this concept to Eve. There's no need to worry about whether the universe is too small, or there aren't enough people populating all the planets to cover the millions killed in one long L4 mission. We simply suspend our disbelief in this to allow us to better enjoy the fiction that is present. Why is that so hard for some people to do? Why must they constantly try to throw facts and figures into a work of fiction and expect it all to make sense?
In other words, let it go, it doesn't matter, just enjoy the game.

Edited by: Kinroi Alari on 10/06/2010 19:29:53 New Eden has a few thousand systems; this is roughly comparable to an "open cluster" (not to be confused with the much larger globular clusters). Most open clusters only run about 40-50 light years across, though. Then again, in spiral galaxies most open clusters occur within one scale height of the galactic plane, or about ¦ 180 light years or so.
So it sounds like New Eden could easily be an isolated open cluster in our universe. But is it even in our universe? Who knows? Though that would nicely explain why we have "space twisters" (go go Recon!) and non-inertial spacecraft movement (I played Traveller and Mayday too much back in the day!). :D -- Nam Sibyllam quidem Cumis ego ipse oculis meis vidi in ampulla pendere... |

Edited by: Athanasia Samsa on 10/06/2010 19:35:26 You really want to start with the size of the galaxy when it comes to unrealistic stuff in eve?
Anyway... if the radius of the known space is only 150 light years then just blame the limited gate network or imagine the space we play in is a open cluster and there's not much outside to travel or extend the gates to. If suspension of disbelieve alone isn't enough for you. :)
Now the warp drive would be a nice option to travel to stars outside the gate network but even though warping is FTL it would still take 'some' time:
1 LY = 63241.0770878 AU ( http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=1+ly+in+au )
63241 AU / 3 AU/s (for your standard T1 ship) / 60 = 351 Min or ~5,8 Hours per Light year.
While that would be totally nice in reality, we could visit Proxima Centauri (~4.2 ly from Sol) in a little over 24 hours after all, it's a little much for a mmorpg.
(I would play that... but I still believe that I'll see Elite IV in my lifetime)
edit: damn you Kinroi... :P (also: changed small globular into open cluster )

Oooooh -- I gotta admit, I would too!

LOL! My apologies, but 'tis cool to see others of like mind. ^_^ -- Nam Sibyllam quidem Cumis ego ipse oculis meis vidi in ampulla pendere... |
