I was really looking forward to PI. I wasą.
When it was released, I found myself a nice barren planet in 0.7 I set up an advance com center and started to create metal extractors. In my setup, IĘm making Mechanical Parts. 5 per hourą(=max)
Then I analyzed the situation :
Log into the system every 5Ęth hour to maximize extractions. Then I can earn ~3500/hour.
Take a badger, stuff it with expanders and a mining laser and go afk mining in 1.0. That would give you about +~1M/hourąą.
CCP ? Why !!!
Fix : Skill to make production go faster (like +100% per level or so)...

Or you could log in, spend a few mins setting your extractors going again then mine and make ISK from two sources.
You aren't being forced to use PI. If you dont like it then dont use it.
Oh, and not everything is about ISK/Hour!

You do know that you can do other stuff with your character while the planets are producing stuff? Yeah, get that, you can mine with your badger on top of doing PI, that basically *doubles* your income!
Then you passively do some manufacturing and some datacores and some market games and spend the rest of your time with missioning and you'll have a good income.
Oh, wait, you can't whine on the forums for profits, sorry. Maybe CCP should implement 1mil ISK per response on a whine thread? -------- All I want is a better mankind.

So I'm a carebear. I live in Empire. That's it. I farm ice and scordite. I like to produce/build things. Got my own little high sec pos. I like Eve, but can't play it 24/7.
So I went into PI to see, if I could make something usefull there. But this is ridiculus. 5 mech parts per hour. Forget it. CCP has created something that no one can profit from. Well - maybe in 6 month from now u say.... cu then.
And don't flame me for not being a pvp nerd living in 0.0.
Thanks.

Like all things in EVE unless you do some homework you are unlikely to get results. Even ignoring the NPC buy order scam decent profits can be made in high sec with very little effort. But I'll take those profits, you go on doing whatever else you prefer.

Ok so look as the 5 mech parts / hour as that bit less you have to buy to run your POS.... --

PI has been out for like 4 days and people are claiming its crap because they arnt making enough money!!!!
Give it time to work out its place in the Eve Economy!
And as for my statement about ISK/Hour.... there are other reasons to do PI other than ISK/Hour. Fueling your own POS for one.

Start double-clicking those pins, hardly any wrists involved (if you're susceptible, you should use a trackball anyway).
Other than that, the OP should consider that high sec might hardly be the source of PI materials, other than casual POS fuel production. Even the robotics debacle shows this; buy lower end and produce higher end. This makes even more sense looking at volume decrease per tier.

I'm a carebear too, and that doesn't prevent me from living and dying in 0.0, but let's get to the point.
You say the products you make will probably be profittable in 6 months. Then WHY are you selling them for peanuts NOW?
Build a stock, see what happens when the NPC orders and the player-hoarded stocks vanish, and once there's a stablished market, go claim your rewards.
Why are you so anxious to get an immediate and effortless reward? This isn't usually possible in real life, either.
Think about this: I will place my first CCs tonight. I haven't even STARTED yet. But in the 48 hours it's taken me to train for what I want to do in PI, I have:
-Read a good amount of great guides. -Checked videos and got insight from tutorials. -Decided what I want to buy, why and how. -Improved my original setups, made diagrams, checked Celestials in Dotlan maps to see what planets are better for my intentions, etc etc.
I am HAVING FUN with this EvE minigame. It's entertaining, a nice exercise. It's challenging to do it well, it requires planning and execution, and it costs almost nothing to build up an operation to give it a try so it's availiable to everybody.
Play it or don't play it, but don't claim it's borked because you can't recover your little 50 millions in two days. First, it was just 50 millions, which is NOTHING, and second, you WILL recover your investment eventually, with little time invested.

Maybe your setup is wrong then. if you double the producers on the planet then you get 10/hr.
So, 5/hr isn't really the max is it.

Can someone answer a quick question: do you HAVE to login regularly to "adjust" your planetary facilities? I only play sporadically.

Many do not realize this. PI is a passive income source, to a degree.
And you also need to combine stuff to make top tier products. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Extractors have settings of 30 minutes, 5 hours, 23 hours, and 96 hours. The longer the setting the less you extract per hour, but if you're around only once a few days it's a nice source of pocket money. Unfortunately there is no way to stop the cycle other than destroying the extractor, so you can't select 96 hours and reset it to another 96 hours after a day.
As for earning ISK: Sell the raw materials. Current prices are very bad and only raw stuff generates any income. I have an improved CC and 13 Suspended Plasma extractors pulling out 93600 plasma an hour if I select 30 minute cycles. 18369 for 23 hour cycles. Each sells for 2-3 ISK. To refine them you need 3000 and get 20 Plasmoids in return. They sell for 50 ISK each. 150 ISK was the most I saw. That's way less than the raw materials so unless you produce stuff yourself, don't process anything. Sell raw.
Things will slowly change in the coming weeks though. I hope.

Stockpile processed mats and see what the market does in a while.
I've got a number of extractors going into a storage that goers into 3 processors that goes into one storage.
the extractors are set dependant on what I think I'll be doing it the comming days and they keep the storage at about half full so the processors have enough input.
Once my processed mats bin is full I'll think about something else. till then patience --
Nothing is worthless, you may have gotten it for free but it still has an inherent value

My only big issue right now is that at 10 minutes per planet to start extractors, that can eat 30-100% of my game time.
Otherwise, I think PI is a good addition to the Eve universe. It just needs some refinement.

You need to have a Launch Pad building. Then you can go to the 'Customs Office' that's orbiting the Planet.
I havent done it yet, but you interact with the customs office and move your items from your hold to the Customs office. Then tell it to ship the items down to your Launch Pad.
I am sure if you play with the Customs Office you will be able to work it out.

I know lots of people who live in Empire, they do PI to augment what they already do. You're just a failure and a whiner. If you want it to go faster, live in Wormhole space or go to Null sec.

I have all my planets on the 4 day resource. The extractors harvest more than the processors can immediately consume, so manufacturing continues for a while after the resource depletes.
My factory centers have 2 spaceports, which can be stocked-up to supply several days worth of continuous production.
Is that sporadic enough for you?
