Is being able to see the other players setups a feature?
I'm asking this since 99% of PI instalation setups I've seen are total crap, wasting loads and loads of PG on links, with 0 optimization to them. Poeple linking 10 extractors directly to a processor, linking 5 extractors directly to a storage, wasting PG on links... so forth.
And today I wake up, check up on one of my barren planets and voila, I have a exact replica of my planet setup done by another player, down to structure locations, links... everthing exactly the same, in the exact same spots! So I ask, is this working as intended (the copying of planetary setups)?
A solution would be to show a "area of influence" color (like scanning) when clicking on another players CC... you'd see where he is working, and you can pretty much get to what he's doing if you have half a brain and still not get to just copy his setup.
tl:dr - Why can other players just copy other players planetary setups?
Thx

Macroers perhaps?
Or a player who thinks you've got the greatest set-up in the uiniverse.... .. ... .... .. .... .. .-. --- - .- -. .- -.- .- A bullet, Laser beam or Plasma charge may have your name on it..... A Smartbomb or Shrapnel is adressed "To whom it may concern"... |

Be happy about the fail setups, its good to know that the muppets your sharing your planet with don't know what they are doing.
A guy on one of mine has one link that almost goes around the entire planet and every building linked individually with like 3 extractors.
My Oxygen facility is just a hub of 18 extractors :P --------------------------------------

such is life. you can see other ppl setups u just need to find their CC
people will always look for the "best" way to do something, goes with POS, ship fitting etc. there will always be ppl coping. ____________________

Wait, wat? I can scan down a single frozen corpse using directional but if i'm in orbit above a planet i can't LOOK OUT THE WINDOW and see the layout of some mines and factories and such?
OP's egotistical and self-serving post is egotistical and self-serving. If you saw a way more efficient set up you wouldn't copy it, nuh uh.

The only way some muppets will learn is by seeing someone else's setup.
I had to hide local on Tuesday, explaining PI to muppets got extremely boring and frustrating...

Well, with ship fittings the other player can still blow up your stuff if he has the skills. And POS logic doesn't really apply as you aren't competing for the same resource on the same physical space. With PI you have 0 ways to keep other players from copying your design or in an alternative, blow their stuff up... and yeah, I know, Dust is supposed to add that... but I'm keeping real as xmas is still far away and santa never really shows up!

So... that window helped you see that station camp you just undocked to? Please tell me how to use windows as I'm unfamiliar with that game feature! :)
Anyway, I'm just asking a question on whether that's working as intended and on my point of view, and that's worth what it's worth, making things in such a way so that players don't even need to think about how they are going to setup their PI stuff (they can just copy the design from the person who thought of it first) isn't really adding to the game... it's taking value away.
My 2 cents. Thx to all who replied

Working as intended so far, people can do pretty much anything they like on planets. This is the first iteration and it sucks because other people can just plop down **** all over the place with no regards to who was there first. And you can't do jack about it short of packing up and leaving.
Wait for Dust and if all goes well we can nuke planets and since some people seem content to literally spam the hell out of a single planet you are going to get a lot of rage per nuke. Good stuff!
My opinions belong to me, you can't have them!
