Edited by: CAPSLOCKBROKE on 11/06/2010 13:10:58 There are both sides to the argument, but if CCP DID decide to remove learning skills, this is in my opinion the easiest, fairest method they could do it while also taking the least amount of development time to successfully implement. If you DO NOT want learning skills changed there is no need to post. This is for SUGGESTIONS ON HOW YOU MIGHT CHANGE THEM if you agree they DO need changed.
Step 1: Remove all attributes
Step 2: Keep all Skill Point (SP from this point forward) values identical, I.E. Drones takes 256,000 SP as a rank 1 skill, Evasive Maneuvering takes 512,000 SP as a rank 2 skill, ect. ect. These will all remain the same as they are now.
Step 3: Give all characters a fixed 2,000 SP per Hour training time.
Step 4: Change Slot 1-5 Implants to be like Slot 6-10, effecting your actual performance in different ways instead of your attributes. This is the hardest part as it DOES require design work.
Step 5: For every SP an existing character has in learning skills, double their SP training time to 4,000 SP per hour for the duration. I.E. if a character has 512,000 SP invested in learning skills, he will have 4000 SP per hour instead of 2000 SP per hour for the next 256 hours. Using this existing system already in place prevents having to develop another way for characters with existing learning skills to be treated fairly.
Step 6: Maintain the initial double SP training time at 4000 SP for new characters until they reach 1,600,000 SP. This will allow new characters to more quickly get into a successful field, and "hook" newer players, instead of having them spend a lot of there initial double training time working towards learning skills.
And that's it. With very minimal effort besides redesigning the 1-5 slot implants, you have a much more newbie friendly skill system, and a side benefit of implants only being a "death penalty" when you decide to use them to boost your COMBAT ABILITIES, rather than using them so you train skills faster. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CAPSLOCK, BECAUSE SOMETIMES REGULAR FONT JUST, ISN'T, GOOD ENOUGH. |

This post isn't rather you agree or not, it's just what I think is the best solution if they DO change them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CAPSLOCK, BECAUSE SOMETIMES REGULAR FONT JUST, ISN'T, GOOD ENOUGH. |

I'm not a fan of the learning skills, but your idea is pretty much crap with a crappy training speed, and as a solution to the issue it isn't very simple. The only simple thing would be the end result. At least with the current system I can focus on the specific areas I want and achieve faster training there and this is an option for everyone else too.

didn't they already address this by giving new players a increase in skill training speed for the first month or so...

No
The perfect way to remove learning skills would be
1)remove learning skills 2)ignore people whining about them
Except that's not what the "remove learning skill brigade" wants is it?
It's clearly "not fair how an older player has better stats than me"
any argument on these forums that suggests that people who have been playing longer some how have an unfair advantage over those that have just arrived is moronic.
Same goes for anyone that thinks "if they make this change it'll only apply to me"
It's like starting a job at a company as an entry level grunt and compaining how it's not fair that the CEO has more perks than you.
all skills are a choice and if you want to train them you train them, if you don't then that's your choice. --

Actually, it usually comes down to "it's not fair how new players won't have to do them" on the one hand, and "it's does not give players a good first impression" on the other. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

Edited by: Jennifer Fenring on 11/06/2010 13:33:22 2,000 SP - and we keep our remaps? Not sure if this is the same stats as what we now have with 5/5s.
If yes I agree. What I'd like to see is the same effect as with 5/5 skills but without training them. Imo the 1.6m double skilltraining can be removed as well imo as it gives new players a totally wrong picture of the game what skilltraining is concerned. But I don't want to lose my max possible 2700+ SP/hour, otherwise it will actually be a step back in the long run. Which possibly can't be the intention.
Why do you want to remove the 1-5 implants, I don't think I've seen much objections against those? You need Cybernetics at V for other implants/hardwires anyway. I don't see the need to complicate things more than necessary.
So my idea is: grant the 5/5 learning skills to every new character and remove the 1.6m double speed stuff.

So you ask for solutions to a problem
It is pointed out to you that the problem has already been solved
So you emo at the guy pointing out the existing solution?
People should bother replying to you... why?
Malcanis' Law: Whenever a mechanics change is proposed on behalf of "new players", that change is always to the overwhelming advantage of richer, older players. |

See the other thread on the topic (which probably spawned this one), and/or the thread in Skill Discussion forumā

You start a discussion on the internet about a core mechanic that people feel strongly about what were you expecting?
It's like rolling into a town and screaming "religion is wrong, here's how to fix it"
Some'll be for it, some'll be against it but with almost total anonymity you'll get alot of hastily thought out answers and people just wanting to add fuel to the fire.
Personally, I can't stand the pandering and attempt at pleasing everyone that ccp go for. What they should do, is look at their original\current core desires for the game. Decide what to do. Then just do it.
umming and arrring is just going to annoy more people than the quick "they're gone" or "we're keeping them, shudup" would.
