This would be really helpful when mining and dealing with pirates that show up rather than going back and forth between the nearest station and the belt I was at and have the pirates not be there when I get there with my weps.
I wouldn't mind waiting so long to unfit my miners and fit my weps maybe like 30 secs.
Maybe a fitting drone could be launched from the drone bay to do it that might take a little while like 20 secs and the ship couldn't move or be under fire.
Maybe there could be auxilliary slots that would rotate and replace the ones in use which would have to be deactivated of course and take a small amount of time for process to complete.

Let me shuffle around this 100 cubic meter weapon. Hang on, don't shoot, this may take a while. I'm pretty much dead set against ship fitting in space. It makes the game much more interesting when you have to choose wether to be equipped as a fighter or miner. So equip as a miner and bring a buddy to provide cover while you mine, it is supposeed to be a multiplayer game anyway.

What about being able to bring already-fitted equipment on or off-line while in space? After all, that's pretty much just flipping a switch.
I noticed that when I tried to activate something that was off-line, the system attempted to bring it on-line in space, though I didn't have enough core power left for it.
What this would allow is to go out in, say, a slasher with a couple of 250 mm guns, a missile launcher, and a shield booster all on-line. Sitting in the second medium power slot is an afterburner, but it's offline because you don't have the power to run it.
When you're trading instead of fighting, you can turn off your shield booster and missile launcher and turn on your afterburner to get around more quickly. When you're ready to entire a belt or a known dangerous area, you turn off the afterburner and bring your rmissile launcher and shield booster back online.
You would, of course, have to have the equipment fitted in a station, you would just be bringing things off-line to activate something else.

The on/off thing makes sense. You should be able to turn gear on and off. It shouldn't be instantly though. Way to many ways to abuse that. Give gear power up and down times.
Real ships power down gear that isn't needed but if it is hey it's installed turn it back on.

I thought the online/offline thing might work so I tried it to see and it didn't.
That would work fine too and does make sense. I'm a little surprised it's not implemented.
