Symbiosys, the EVE character database
Following our previous post we are happy to announce that the Corporation functionalities have been implemented. As opposed to other sites, all services offered by Symbiosys are free of charge.
Symbiosys can be reached at http://www.symbiosys.be
Symbiosys now offers corporations the ability to list Corporation details and members on our site. In the past this service was offered on the EVE-Online site itself but this was removed in the new version.
We understand that the success of all this will depend on how many players will actually enter their data. That is why we opted for a functional site instead of heavy graphics. After you login, most actions you can perform will be listed in the "action" drop-down list.
We urge everyone to ready the "Corporation" and "User" section in our FAQ.
In addition, on popular request we are now coding extra functions that will make it possible to set an "access" level on a character. You can set access to everybody, only corporation members or only yourself. We expect to finish this next week.
Again, I would like to ask that if you have any comments or requests to post them here or mail them to [email protected]

Oops, I tried to add a character and it came up with an error. I tried getting rid of some the text I'd entered and tried again, but still had the same error. Eventually I had a look at the char list and I appear to have gone into the DB after all - 5 times! Please delete the extra ones.

Dear Athule Snanm,
I deleted the multiple characters.
To all other users: If you experience any errors, please send these to [email protected]. If possible, take some screenshots or copy the exact error message you receive. That will enable us to search for the bug.
In addition, Sysmbiosys only supports IE 5.5 and above. Any other browser will not load the site correctly.
thank you,

It was a good idea when I'd first heard of it, and it's well implemented.
Well done Indasha. --

Mayumi,
Well, since you seem to find Symbiosys usefull, maybe you can grace us by registering the Polaris Corporation and characters? :-)
Kind regards,

Character Access Level implemented!
Much sooner then expected, the character access level has been implemented. Now users can choose an access level per character. You can choose between these settings :
All Every visitor of the site can view the character details
Corp Only Only the members of your corporation can view the character details. The user has to be logged on for this (since checking is done on the user account). You can select this even though you are not a member of a corp. When that is done, the setting will have the same effect as the private one!
Private Only the user who created the character can view the character details. The user has to be logged on for this (since checking is done on the user account)
Since this is a new setting in the character, we ask everyone to check this setting and make the appropiate changes.
Kind regards,

During the weekend we had to apply some changes to fix the errors visitors had. Normally, everything should be fine again.
I would like to iterate that the success of all this will depend on how many players will actually enter their data. (Which is not nearly enought today)

Really nice piece of programming DrBob. When do you expect to have the character photo upload function ready?
Keep it up!

It'd be neat if it worked in opera or mozilla. I don't plan on using IE just for an incompatable site.

Character & corporations image upload implemented!
We just finilised the system so every registered user can upload their own character and corporation images. The function is available from the "action" drop-down menu.
Please notice that the images should be in JPG format and may not exceed 200x200 pixels.
Alphatronics, I know of the issues with non IE browsers. To be honest, I do not have to time to look into cross-browser scripting at the moment. If the number of Opera users is big enough to warant these changes, I'll check them out.
Kind regards,

How to take full advantages of our services
I would like to take this opportunity to explain how the services of Symbiosys can be used.
- Freelancers
Freelancers can use Symbiosys to display their character's skills. You can simply see it as advertising space.
- Corporations & members
Every employee can use Symbiosys to keep record of his characters instead of using confusing email or forum posts. This in turn makes it easier for the division managers to see which character has the best skills for a certain task. Another use would be to evaluate characters and issue extra skill packs depending on the major role of the character.
Extra functionalities are still on the drawing board. I again ask everyone to send us any comments or requests. (It amazes me how little feedback we received)
Kind regards,

Tharrn,
I'll see what I can do to fix that. In the meantime you should register the corp without using a number as the first character.
Kind regards,

Tharrn,
We added another tab in the character and corporation listings marked with a "*". All characters and corporations not starting with a normal character will be listed in that tab.
Kind regards,
