Dont know who else watches the series here, but I just noticed something within this particular episode. If you listen closely near the beginning, at about the 3 min 24 second mark, you will hear the sound that is used when you have probes out and are scanning for anomalies. It is only about 2 seconds worth of it, but I sure noticed it, first thought I was imagining things.
For those that are within Australia you can view that episode currently on the ABC iView

It's an audio engineering conspiracy! They're not making any new sound effects, they're borrowing them!!!

I noticed that sound in Cowboy Bebop, the one with the casino station. Same also has a ship that is remarkably close in looks to the Hyperion. Inspiration isn't theft, isn't it? /tinfoilhat -------- All I want is a better mankind.

I noticed that noise as well in that episode. It does repeat at certain points as well later on (I think when they're in the labs). I got a mild woody when I heard it. Told the wife and she wasn't interested in the slightest (in either the sound or my woody).

Good old BBC!
Hadn't noticed that myself, but it is quite obvious in the third of the most recent Red Dwarf episodes!

I dont think i have ever had sound on when ive been probing stuff out. Im gonna have to check this out. Did you catch the guy that pointed out that the targetting sound is in Gorillaz - Stylo check it about 20 secs in. Its nearly all i hear now of that tune .
Next weeks Doctor Who is looking promising too.

You've probably meant that sarcastically, but that's almost exactly what's going on. And it's not really a new thing either, plenty of sound effects are either just recycled to death these days, or recreated almost identical but in higher quality. I would be surprised if CCP themselves didn't heavily borrow from previous "sound effect databanks" too. There's only so many types of one-second loop sounds you can make, and most of them have been used, whatever's left to actually make that would sound decent would be way too similar with something that already exists anyway.
P.S. For a laugh, see : Stock Sound Effect (or examples of one famous stock scream).
