On my planets I am producing P2 products. As everyone has gathered by this point extraction rates vary sometimes greatly between resources. My question is what is everyone doing with the resource left over? Do we produce P1 to sell? Do we trash these components.
2nd point. It seems most people are using large amount of extractors. On my P2 planets using 5 hr cycles my supply far outpaces my processing capacity. I am currently running 8 extractors 4 for each P0, 6 basic factories and 3 advanced factories. I realize the logical plan would be to drop 2 extractors in favor of more factories but in that case I would still not have the power to get all 3 factories (2 basic, 1 advanced) to create the P2 components. If I simply create the basic factories I will only end up with a surplus of P1 components.
Any thoughts/suggestions would be welcomed.

Use longer cycles. 5 hour cycles seem to be designed as a "kicker" cycle to get the initial stream of resources flowing. If you have an oversupply extending the cycle time on some/all extractors may help. I forgot to mention that you are in fact reading something that is called a signature. |

I've got Basic Processors & Adv Processors operating in steady state (no accumulation of P1's between Refining steps). At the moment my whole set-up is more or less in steady state on 23hr extractor cycles. But, then again - my supply chain spans 2 colonies - so I have greater capacity. I would definitely try and get basic and advanced processors working in tandem with no bottleneck in between, especially if extraction is outstripping demand. You could consider having a processing only colony... (if import & export duty don't eat too much into profits)

if you extract less than half cycle (1500) units as surplus, don't bother. it will give you buffer for times when you don't log in on time. if you create sufficient surplus, you might consider adding "wildcard" processor to deal with it, or even reconsider your whole chain.
i prefer to design process at minimal surplus. if it starts to pile up, i'd pull most of it to customs, and ship away eventually. ________________________________ : Forum Bore 'Em : Foamy The Squirrel - [jedi handwave] "There is no spoon." |

I've been using the 30min cycle time to start up the planet. after that it gets to be over kill... ---

I did back down to 23 hr cycle times for now. The issue im still having is getting more of component then the other. I guess I will start launching the spare P1 component into space and either use it on another colony or sell the P1 component on the market assuming that it is profitable.
