As the topic states, where did you find the inspiration for your Avatars look?
I originally set out with the idea of something close to a young Jessica Alba from her Dark Angel days. I loved her character Max in that and thought it would be very fitting for the EVE universe.
Sarah didn't quite turn out anything like Jessica Alba. She kept some of her features, such as the lips, but I got carried away and this is what I ended up with.
Who was your inspiration? If any.. |

Huh. I take inspiration from many places, always keep my eyes open for something that could become a cool avatar, anything ranging from advertisements to other players' avatars. And quite often they just happen while i am tinkering with the CC.

It was an attempt at my idealized (ie, not fat) self. Then when I went to the dark side I reinvented my "self" a bit because I felt my old avatar look a bit too carebear-ish.

I created something so awesome that my main got jealous, so I rescultped him to mirror it and just messed this guy up so I wouldn't get confused at the Character selection screen...

I used my old avatar as a template for inspiration, but I also wanted someone to reflect the Amarr sensibility and philosophy to a certain degree. (Although, to be fair, I don't really see her as a character who is totally invested in either religion or slavery when I play her in the game. She's pretty much a loner in everything, I'm afraid.)
When I was working on the entire figure I also wanted someone who at least seemed like a person you would normally see in everyday life: normal weight, height, measurements, etc. When you get right down to it I guess I wanted her to kind of blend into the Amarrian population rather than stand out like a neon light bulb.

I think I subconsciously drew inspiration from an old coworker (according to my roommate at least) and a bit from my best friend (according to my other roommate). Both of them are very petite, so I picture Celeste to be also 5' although there is not much in the CQ to use as a relative scale.
When I designed Celeste I was just trying to get a friendly look to her. I was also attempting to find a youthful just graduated from the academy look. Someone who isn't bitter and cynical. The type of person you I would like to be around since mean people suck.. The more I think about it the more she does remind me of my best friend. |

Changed it to this new red themed guy because my GF loved the look.

I've had many, many, many alts over the years. Some of the avatars are just throwaways, esp the alts from the early days. But all my main characters, and a signficant portion of my alts, are actually part of a larger tableau I imagine in my head. The main mains are sitting or standing around a table. The direction of the lighting and gazes match up in such a way that several are looking at each other, several are looking at the camera/viewer, several are in profile (similar to famous frescoes like the last supper, Raphealite paintings/frescoes, or old paintings from the colonial period). Not quite main mains fill the tableau outside the immediate center. Good guys in this subgroup tend to be well lit with a picture that views them with various head positions that are almost level; bad guys get darker, more shadowy pictures that usually capture them from slightly below (as though you were looking up at them) or slightly above (as though they are looking up at you). They are accompanied by a "choir" of hooded alts (get it? forum alts? choir of voices?).
They don't really resemble anyone famous, unless by coincidence, but I work hard to get the angles, eye direction, etc. just right. |

As for me, I just started sculpting and set a baseline, then spend hours tweaking the bone structure to look as natural as possible (smooth lines, feminine features, eurasian look). No real inspiration, just planted a seed and then nurtured it.
The above alt was modeled after a girl I knew, Couldn't quite capture her wide jawbone however.

All I did was go into all races (female) and hit the random button about 15 - 20 times. Then went back to the race that gave me the closest result for what I was looking for.
Randomised it until the character had a reasonable facial structure and tweaked it from there. Only thing required of it was does it look acceptable, which it does. So it was tweak the facial structure and change everything else.
So it's not trying to emulate anyone, it is what it is. |

When I first came into the game avatars were just 2d portraits of strange alien Gallentians in DaftPunk helmets. Then suddenly after incarna my main turned into most beatiful pixelwoman I could imagine.
