I just renewed my account after 2 years off. I hopped into my ship, accepted a mission and started to pew pew stuff...only to be thoroughly dissapointed at my "pew pew" noises!
The guns sound effects for your ship don't happen anymore if you're zoomed out to a certain level, i understand that (although i think it sucks that they introduced that). However, if i'm zoomed out to the max level i hear enemy NPC ship gunfire (not all the time though), and it's incredibly loud compared to the volume of my own guns when i'm fully zoomed in.
The sound quality when i'm zoomed right in is awful compared to what it used to be. Is this a permanent thing, of are they going to "fix" it?
Does anyone else have this problem with sound being all fudged up? And is it possible to switch off gunfire effects ("Quieter turret" button doesn't dampen down the loud npc fire) so i can simply have targetting noise and the shield/armour alarm on?
I really used to enjoy having the game effects & music on, it added an immersive element. I do hope there's a fix so i don't have to play with no sound :(

Sound has been ****ed up after Empyrean age... So I advice you to cancel your subscription again since CCP hasn't done ANYTHING to fix this problem. They are concentrating resources to all kinds of secondary things like planetary interaction...
Please search for support-thread for fixing sounds and sign it.

How long ago was the empyrean age? And have ya got any links for previous hot topics on the subject? Search function is ugly and brings up multiples of the same thread, i gave up after 2 pages :s

Welcome back to the game Nuila.
The sound for the gunfire effect can only be turned off by turning off the graphical effect, too. Regarding the "quieter turret" button there does indeed seem to be something wrong and we are currently investigating the issue.
On the "hearing loud NPC guns when being zoomed out to maximum" issue: That's the first time I hear about such an issue, if it is happening more frequently please file a defect report with information about the environment where this happens, f.e. were there any NPCs close to the camera or is it only happening when running a specific mission?

Got similar problem by jumpin through gates, like i click jump, that bubble animation appears, screen goes black and i hear strange loud sound before the next system grid loads up. Tested this on 3 different OS's with 3 different sound cards, same crapp all the time. So basically have to mute sound when autopiloting and so on. Very annoying tbh.

Yep. That strange loud sound you hear for a splitsecond while the grid is loading is the ambient sound of an asteroid belt (winds are howling..). I was autopiloting while on desktop. After the jump the strange sound started and persisted until i switched back to eve client. Can reproduce it any time.

I bug reported the sound problem (static, hiss or echo on landing after jumping at a gate or docking) when I was testing on SiSi long before Tyrannis was released to TQ.
Got a standard æNot ReproducibleÆ reply asking for all my DXDiag files from 3 PCÆs, thanks but no thanks.
When I first started playing sound was one of the reasons I loved playing Eve but sound is rubbish now and takes the entire ambience away from the game. Will it ever get æfixedÆ unlikely as a æthird partyÆ now handles the sound engine not CCP.

Hello again. Thanks for the replies, peeps, i've not posted in a while 'cause i thought this thread was dead :D
Hello, CCP Aporia: When i heard the overly loud (compared to every other effect) NPC lasers i was zoomed out to the maximum level. There were only 5 NPC ships and all were onscreen clumped together, nowhere near the camera. So i don't know why i hear their loud gunfire when zoomed out, and i don't know why it's only sometimes >.< I was belt ratting in 0.0 when this happened, and i've noticed it happen in missions too.
I noticed that my own gunfire has a slight crackle to it, barely noticeable, but frustrating when you notice it. This never used to happen, and i used to have EVE volume turned wayyyy up :) I'm still using the same speakers etc etc, and the volume currently is not loud at all :/
With all the sound complaints i see on the forums, is anything going to be done...like go back to the old ways (which were fine!:D)? I agree with Blue Harrier, the sound is a massive part of the game for me. It adds a huge element to my gameplay, having to turn it off (or putting up with crackly/loud etc etc sound) taints the gameplay.

Edited by: Father Vegemite on 28/06/2010 01:57:58 Edited by: Father Vegemite on 28/06/2010 01:57:26 I have had sound issues ever since they revamped the sound system. I have posted this on other occasions, and there is a large post going about the poor audio, which I joined in on as well.
Audio Issue Thread Here
I have noticed that when I pop drones out, most of my audio vanishes. Someone mentioned somewhere that with the new audio system it is assigning an audio channel for every drone you launch, then the soundcard runs out of channels which is why the sound acts funny when you zoom in and out. But, I don't know, I am not an audio programmer. I just know my sound is buggered, like many others and there has been no response from CCP for the past year or so about it.

We are aware that there are still some issues with the sound engine and we are working on resolving these. This is part of our commitment to excellence and includes, among others, fixing the issues regarding positional sound and the jukebox not playing back music. However, the problem is that not all of these issues are easily reproducible and thus it is very hard to track down the root cause - and even if the cause is discovered then there is not necessarily an easy, fast and simple way to fix it.
We should probably write another dev blog on sound to explain these things a bit more, I guess :-)

Since the 0.3 patch you can add another sound problem to your Not Reproducible list, when I [Ctrl] + Click to target a Rat or NPC (red cross) I get the bleep, bleep target countdown lock sound, but if I do the same on the overview, some times I get the countdown some times just one or 2 bleeps, then nothing until the target icon appears when you get the locked bleep.
