O hai!
So how about this? I thought it'd be kinda cool if you can install some sort of camera tower in the proximity of a POS, and/or in Zero-Sec space that you hold sovereignty of. Kinda like Jita-Cam, except your own.
It would obviously be categorized under "Starbase & Sovereignty Structures". Once deployed, whatever the cam sees can be seen in a seperate window, and depending on the roles you have (like CEO or director or something) that window would have some sort of controls to pan, zoom, rotate.
Cam tower could not be moved as it is anchored (unless you unanchor and move somewhere else).
However you could not go and buy such a tower and aimlessly cams anywhere - only near a POS and/or sovereignty space.
Interesting or should I GTFO? You decide.

The Idea is certainly interesting, but you will get trolled to death in a second now because of additional lag and suggestion of additional features when the game has too many issues already. (As the camera view is rendered in the client, all the pilots looking through the cam would probably be technically on the same grid as the camera, inducing performance issues that may be exploitable etc etc)

It can't cause too much lag. It's just like putting another ship in space. you are viewing that area as if your ship was there but it isn't. Very good Idea

I'm trying to think how this would actually be used. The primary use would be to reduce the need for a scout alt when gatecamping. You could put a camera on the other side of the gate and simply watch the traffic through the camera. (In this use case, you may actually reduce lag by reducing the need for alt accounts.)
Other uses might be:
1. To wire a whole solar system with security cameras. Wouldn't it be great for a pirate corporation to have a camera in every asteroid belt of some lowsec constellation. You can spot victims without appearing in local, attack quickly without having to use d-scanner or search around, and get easy prey. Would probably produce lots of lag as people are using lots of cameras at once.
2. For large groups of people to watch things like the alliance tournament, or a major fleet battle. Would this be a lag-producer or a lag-reducer? Depends on the programming I guess.

It would increase lag by a lot. Not only does the game have to communicate to your client what's on your grid, but also, what is on the other grid, where the camera is. And it has to do that to all the people that can look through the camera. 2 grids instead of one.
The idea itself is interesting, but with the current lagfest that EVE can be, I would have to say its probably not a good idea at the time. Well, lets see how things improve in the future.
