system specs xp pro nvidia universal drivers 66.93 direct x 9.0 geforce 4 ti4600 p4 3.0 ghz
description of problem this problem just surfaced, game ran fine up until most recent exodus patch, ran fine 2 weeks ago after first exodus patch while in station, graphics progressively become more distorted, starting with flickering of black squares and pixel groups over the entire screen. Eventually, horizontal and diagonal lines appear over the entire screen, and bright colors appear in these areas, the remaining images on the screen that are dicernable are jagged and jumbled on top of one another. This entire process takes about one minute to begin from when the game loads to the hangar view, and ultimately crashes the computer after about 30 seconds of distortion.
Would the computer heating up too much cause these problems, or is it a software error. The computer runs fine in other graphic dependent programs, but this problem just now developed and for eve only, so I am assuming that the problem lies in EVE and is related to the latest patch.

Edited by: Basileus on 13/12/2004 20:54:46 Try downloading and installing the Nvidia 53.03 driver. Worked for me. What I think happens is that your framerate is shagged (try pressing CTRL-SHIFT-ALT-M to verify). This is because Eve cannot cope with the 66.93 driver (although this depends on who you're talking to; CCP have a different opinion). Downloading and installing the old driver should get rid of the problem... |

thank you for the suggestion, but installing the older drivers did not work, i double checked to make sure that the 53.03 drivers were the ones that were active, and they were. The same sort of crash still occurs. No settings on this computer have changed, and the only difference is the newest patch for eve. Exodus ran fine two weeks ago.

This happened to me also
I had just brought a brand spanking new ATI X800 XT
did all the strange checker boxes and colours then went pop.I am told its a memory problem on the card.
Maybe your ghpx card is on its way out?

Sounds like your graphics card is the problem. Is it brand new? Did you just buy it and install it? Have you played any other games using the card? Same problems?
A corp mate is having white screen errors, and I told him to do this....perhaps its the last approach, but when it comes down to EvE, I'll kill to make it work.
Suggestion: reformat, that usually does it.

Hi there,
Not so great news: Im completely sure you have a hardware glitch in your hands.
After frying loads of vidcards due to overclocking, I know what you mean, and what you are experiencing is electron migration due to overheating or isolation melt down. It's a process accelerated by overcloking, but in general, may happen to any1.
The effect is caused by faulty memory modules, or overclocked memory. It may also happen due to o/c and overheating.
Just to dismiss driver issues, I would recommend using the 70.90 (super stable, more performance). _______________________________________________

I had this problem as well one time. I was in a thorax and the whole thing would start flashing blue( ), and green spark looking things came out of the contrail. I adjusted the powercord thing to my graphics card(ghetto pc) and it stopped that, im almost postive that is not your problem, as I keep the side of my pc open due to cooling issues with a big fan right there.
