nothing works without quirky linux things happening, the 'enhanced desktop effects' are putrid, CCC has vanished for some reason and my HD4770 is rather neglected, flash playback randomly goes blank/stops and needs a page reload and uses TONS of cpu and BBC iplayer doesn't work, I have to enter my password for bloody everything, i can't seem to find a DXVA equivalent video player - the one it comes with can't take plain old x264 without stuttering to death and it's not even multithreaded, it uses bloatfox as default, it's not faster than windows 7 at anything i've done and uses easily as much ram as windows 7 just doing nothing, it wouldn't even load on my raid0, etc.
i have tried linux 'desktop' distos every year since mandrake8 for gods sake and it's still not fit for purpose as anything but a light work/bit of web and email solution or using for custom stuff, 10 years.
i would 'try harder' but after downloading some things to help but to no avail, i should face reality, it's back to windows 7.

ATI cards and linux is a pain. I've tried myself and failed horribly. As for speed i am more than happy with my Ubuntu, in some cases maybe slower than Win 7 but the pros outweigh that(and it runs eve perfectly). If you're just a normal gamer its not worth bothering with it. With videos i too prefer to use my Win 7 box since i have some problems with videos but it doesnt bother me that much |

I'd be using it if it would do EVE under Wine with sound. Which it does not.

Well that's the final nail in the "I dont like Linux" coffin. There are ALWAYS tweaks and such that you have to do to get any Linux distros working correctly. That being said, Ubuntu is definitely the most user friendly of the distros. Before losing all hope, go ahead and give Super OS a shot. Super OS is a distro of Ubuntu that comes pre-packaged with all of your drivers and plugins (such as Flash) right in the install. I believe it is still using 9.10 though so it isn't gonna be the most recent Ubuntu release.
