I've played EVE on and off for the past 9 years, mostly off. It seems I can never fully get into the game. I'm giving it one more try and here's my goals for this time around:
1) Become invested in EVE; before it's always just been...pretty space and me flying. Nothing much more. 2) Find a great corp; I mean a good corp of fun people - that makes all the difference, I could even stand mining for hours if the people I'm with are fun. 3) Have fun - some people scoff at EVE and fun in the same sentence but I don't think it should be impossible 4) Maintain a normal work/life balance. 5) Make 500m isk over the course of the trial. This isn't a must but I'd really like to push the envelope and pay my way via PLEX if possible, if this isn't possible but the other 4 points on this list have been met I can always shell out a few extra dollars.
I'm up for anything in game (except intentionally scamming, I'm not too big on that) - of particular interest is PvP, Incursions, Industry, etc. I realize I can't do it all at once, I'm just looking for that niche. I'm generally a loyal corp member (part of the reason my past EVE experience has been poor, my past corp - which is now dead - was quite a drab place with few members and even fewer active) so any quality corp I join I'd like to stick with for a while. Also willing to travel anywhere, including 0.0 space which I'm not exactly a stranger to - though I may need some time to shake off the rust.
Send me an in game mail if interested! |

As you have said, you need a corp. Some people solo quite well but the game becomes vibrant when played with others. However, people can ruin your game as well. Don't get stuck in a corp if it does not work for you. The leave corp button is there to be used.
Don't fall into the trap of doing everything solo. ISK per hour will devastate you, especially if you want a work/balance.
The ISK thing is something that comes up a lot. Some people are great at it and can make it happen, most can not for their first few weeks or months. PLEXing an account can happy quite early on but if it is your first goal you will create a grind for yourself and burn out.
Plenty of corps take in new players, including PvP corps. You can look at faction warfare or see what pirate groups are looking for new members you can look at Noir.'s academy group or Eve Uni or any of the many groups out there that have options and game play choices for you.
But you also have to like Eve. I spent weeks barely able to function for flying my spaceship around and around and around in amazement. I still often do it because its fun. After the initial burn if you really get into it, the game calms down a lot. The long skill training times help you do things like go to dinner with your spouse :P Once you get used to the fact that you still advance (skill wise) when not offline you will be able to maintain that balance (hopefully).
But I say that as a helpless, and happy addict. |

In regards to 4, I think the problem a lot of people have when playing Eve is that they get burned-out too quickly, instead of just taking their time.
Enjoy the game in doses, RL always comes first, Eve will still be there when you come back from the pub.
I wish you luck in finding a good corp. |

One of the best things about Eve is that "on and off" is a perfectly valid way to play it. You don't have to restart your character to get back into it, just write down your username and password somewhere when you're bored and letting your subscription expire, then when you come back your character will still be entirely valid.
This isn't WoW, where if you leave the game with your character in purples at level 60 and come back a year later there's no perceptible difference in the effort required to level the old character and to roll a new one to unlock the available content. The more time you've invested in the character the more you can do, and the old content never becomes entirely obsolete (well, basically never, it's tweaked frequently).
Basically what I'm asking here is why are you rerolling, exactly? If you just want to do tutorials and the SoE arc, those are all available to your old character too. Same with training trade and trying to make big money. |

My original character only has about 6m SPs, so rerolling isn't a huge issue for me. If I do get back into the game I'll rehash those 6m SPs in the first year, easily. Like you said, a character is never wasted so I can always resume him as an alt later if I want to.
While I don't mind spending the money, I'd like to be invested in the game before throwing sub money down the drain - thus the new char. With my old char I have set habits and his skillset is heavily geared toward a single niche; it'd take almost as long for him to branch out as it would for a new character to.

Other players won't know that though, some might see that your character is old and think "he must have a lot of SP/ISK/experience". This could prove useful at some point in the future, I'd keep that character around as an alt at least.
Also check if your original character has unspent refunded skillpoints, if you trained the "learning skills" back in the day, you'll get those points back. |

Its all in the friends you make. Once my husband and I found some mature friends to mine, mission and explore with in a corp with a large alliance (thus adding even more people to chat and group up with) the game became alot more fun. While we don't like low sec activities (flame on forum fighters) there are corps in our alliance who do low sec pvp and security for the alliance so the option to fight in low sec is open to us. I can't stress enough, its all in the people you meet that makes the game worthwhile in the long term. Also, its good to take breaks now and then and come back feeling fresh, I have taken alot of breaks since starting in June 03' and yet am here still. |

5 is possible trading, I know I did it on an alt account of mine, I used 100mil seed money though from another account to make the final tally which I think was 700-800 mil in the trial period.
That did take alot of work though and to be honest after 3 months of doing it I haven't touched it since. God Said "Come Forth and receive eternal life!"-á I came second and won a toaster. |

here are some suggestions.
Purchase the account for first month. Its very hard to earn a PLEX in your first 21 days of trial and even more harder ofc if u got the one of 14. U can try tough in 2 ways: By doing plexes (static ones), missioning or salvage lv 4 missions for other ppl, or combination of all of em.
All of that is not heavy on skill. Go matari way mate, u ll have a good ship for every hull for missioning and than for PvP (rifter, cycloone, maelstrom)
Than after the initial month i d suggest you to go to RvB, EVE uni or join a FW corp. |

Well, I've made 55 mil in my first day - a bit over 1/10th of the way to my goal. Thanks for all of your help everyone. I'm willing to go roam with some of you too.
It's only day two but it seems that EVE is sticking much better this time, finding some mates to roll with and some fun stuff to do. |

Well, Im very new to EVE (less than 2 weeks) and im committed to playing as long as the game is going. I like it that much. I havent been bored as I do lots of security missions, mostly with friends. And even when I mine, im with a group, so it doesnt much feel like a boring activity so much as its like being in an interactive chatroom.
I know each time I log on there is a ton of stuff to do. Daunting, intimidating, fun. Join the Knights Of Illusion STE Corporation! Casual and Hardcore gamers! |

You might want to think about Eve in terms of gardening and seasons. There are times and places for great activity, times of drought, as well as seasons of plenty. After the initial novelty wears off, it really helps to pace yourself and your goals. Trees, plants, gardens don't grow into deeply and regularly immersing things over night or even with eventual dayly regularity. Weather changes, seasons come and go. Adapt and flow while keeping an eye on the short and long term perspective of your Eve path.
It's a game of extreme patience and frantic action whether you're adapting to market changes or responsible for pixel explosions. |
