Well, I've made my first planet right after it was possible... I created 7 extractors, processors and an advanced processor, etc, bla bla...
Now, I set 2 harvesters to the longest resources that last 96h at the moment when I set them up... And the rest for 23h sources. I've had to change the 23h sources daily (quite obvious)... But the 96h source hasn't depleted yet... Even worse! It not only hasn't depleted but I can't order him to stop harvesting that! It only gives half the yield my 23h would give and I want to get rid of it but I can't.
So... Is this intended that you can't switch the source? It it intended that a 96h source does not deplete at all? It's just a bit confusing... Maybe it's me seeing a problem somewhere where there is none?
PS - one more thing, the time actually is EXTENDING every DT at the two harvesters... Yesterday it was 1d and 14h when I checked, today it's almost 3 days! It's bouncing up and down like crazy.
Buggy buggy?

it will run out after 96 hours. it runs for the full duration of the time you set. the shorter the time the more resources per hour you get.

Downtime resets currently the extractor timers. It's bugged. It seems a lot of PI processes are screwed up by downtime and it needs some serious work. -------- All I want is a better mankind.

As far as 96 hour extractions go, just decomission the extractor and build it again. Its 45k (I think) isk to do that (so you have to weigh up the amount extracted vs the cost) but with the current bug, it could be a godsend for someone who needs to go away for a week or so and be away from the computer, at least to keep things ticking over whilst they are away.

Not sure I want to, I mean it's slow but allows not to mantain the planets at all :) Just haul it once in a while. Besides, I'll just scrap the planet in a while and place it somewhere else when I get better skills.

1. Command centers need to be the hub, where all the extraction cycle times are set ONCE. You survey and set cycle times through the command center and everything is displayed on ONE page.
2. Extractors work the same way as strip miners and lasers, you CLICK on the icon to start the cycle and click on it again to STOP the cycle.

1. Not really, that will make it simpler but that's probably inviting macro'ers. With your Extractors separated and spaced unevenly they are hoping that it will be harder to write a macro that can accurately pick them out among different planets. Macro'ers will probably win in the end but don't blaem CCP for trying.
2. I mostly agree with.

I used to work in software QA and one of the laziest forms of regression testing was the 'record mouse moves and button clicks and replay'. I see no reason why that wouldn't work for the current PI interface. Without having actually tried it I think that the current system is almost certainly amazingly macro friendly. It involves no choices or interpretation of UI, just double click here, wait x seconds, double click there, repeat.
Imho something more along these lines would be better...
Build one extractor. Have a mini-game where you find mineral veins and set the extractor to dig them out. Instead of dropping more extractors you pay to upgrade your extractor to a bigger size. Mineral vein output decays as minerals are extracted so eventually you want to redirect it to a new vein. Have some downtime when it switches to the new vein to discourage people from spamming switch commands all the time.
Lower server consumption (fewer pins). Less RSI. Harder to macro (choices, maybe even skill). Mini-game could actually be gamelike so hopefully fun. No longer have to schedule your life around the pre-set extractions timers. Planetology skills can open up new and better veins so there's benefit to actually training them on the character that's doing the mining.

this , yes, i have the same with a lot of my extractors, they run down with extraction time but are reset after downtime (though it was me, but seems not to be the case, pfeh!) -

Downtime doesn't change the time per se, but the amount of the resource remaining changes (increases).
It looks like the time is derived from: resource amount / extraction rate.

Not really? Are you kidding me? You obviously don't have 6 planets with 15 to 20 extractors on each. This may prevent macros but it also makes it very difficult for humans to use due to repetitive stress.
I would rather have a game where I don't have to click 100 times in a row every 30 minutes then one which is safe from macro bots. Want to make it macro safe? Heres HOW:
1. set survey times and extraction rates in command center, then enter the captcha password which is randomly set by CCP servers.
Macro problem solved!

Honestly, I'd love to see PI changed to all perma run extractors.
Have the hot spots move a little every down time. Allow you to stop, move, and restart an extractor.
If you want max extraction, every day or so you log on and move your extractors to keep them on the hot spots. Want to check once a week, okay, but you're probably going to be getting lower and lower extraction rates as the week goes on.
What I find suck now is.
1) 30 min cycle nets 8x return of 96 hour. So, someone wihtout a life (or botting) can pull as much from a high sec planet as someone in 0.0 that actually has a life.
2) The click fest.
3) can't stop extractors mid-cycle.
4) Can't upgrade CC in place (have to tear out and rebuild everything).

Although I do think that PI is cool, I agree with all 4 points the previous poster has made. Especially the 4th point.

I thought the shorter cycles had lower total amounts? so those without a life would have to move their pins more often than those on a 3 day cycle?

*1* is an intended feature. The more you play the bigger rewards... yeah no-lifers win, but same for mining, missions, and so.
You can't pretend to earn the same being offline for a while or even logging in once a month. Perma-cycles would be a joke.
*2*,*3*, and *4* totally agree.

I totally agree it stinks that the system allows someone who puts in a ton of extra effort to be rewarded for it! We need to level the playing field so that everyone sucks equally. If the incentive to work harder is removed, it will finally allow the less capable to feel better about themselves.

I certainly agree: the game really should be played, not checked up on occasionally. ;-)

...with a particular focus on *2*! Restarting your extractors is a needlessly soul-crushing exercise. We should be able to not only set them up to all fire the same cycle time with one click, but also be able to group them and fire off the groups. If your carpal tunnel syndrome wasn't bad enough with invention and manufacturing, we now have PI to finish us off!
