I run about a 30 man mining crew. Mostly all noobs. Just wardec'd by a 10 man corp. Looking for protection options. I'll be checking here but you can contact me in game as well. Any help appreciated. Thank you.

Last group of miners I wardecced hired some well known mercs to protect them. Due in part to the miners stupidity, there wasn't much the mercs could do to help. They basically threw their isk away and kept us interested in them longer.
Here's some advice you should follow whether or not you eventually end up hiring mercs: - Don't let any of your corp members undock in anything not pvp or travel fit - Get as many members as you can to train propulsion jamming, then fly cheapest named t1 frigates/cruisers - Take all your members PvPing on testserver. Even if they don't plan on PvPing for the wardec, the experience on testserver will help immensely when you have to give accurate intel to whatever mercs you end up hiring.
Mail me some details (attackers name, your corps name, region of operation, what you're willing to pay for protection) and I might be able to hook you up with some mercs.

You can hire mercs to irritate the wardeccers a bit, if you happen to find competent ones. However in the end they cannot do anything to protect miners, mining ships are just too weak to protect, only thing you can do is dock up.
What works best is, sadly, dont undock at all until it is over, only way to get rid of wardecs is boring the opponent. If you really feel the need to fight, half of people with ECM, other half with TDs, and then you probably still dont kill anything against station campers, but if you want wardec to end you cannot afford to have a fight against them that is fun for them. Move for a while to quiet system with only few poeple there, then at least you can see in local when they come and immediatly dock up. And dont go to kickout station.

you don't need protection, that would be a waste of your money and some merc's time and you will still not be safe.
what you need to do is 1. Kick all new members that joined up tha last week or 2, ,otherwise you WILL have spies in your corp. 1. Find yourself a wormhole C1 or C2, Set up a small mining outpost 2. Move your members in and make sure your wartargets do not follow you
once you're in your WT's should not be able to find you again. just stay put and mine arkonor to your hearts content

If they're motivated then they will just spam locator agents on known members until they find one near or in the connecting k-space. Or simply follow a member from K-space to the WH. You are cutting down on the chance of encountering WTs and making them work for it but there will be the occasional gangs of people in your WH space that will see "oooh mining op" and proceed to make bombing runs. Also you're sticking up a semi-expensive stationary target (a POS with most likely a bunch of mining vessels in a ship maint. array). While you can build a well setup one a determined force can blow it up anyway and probably lock down your system while the stront depletes.
Best bet is to take the advice on practicing PvP on the Test Server or some other variation of the same idea. Every corp should have some combat capable branch or else everyone should be combat capable. Once your members learn how to fight and most importantly work together then they can actually look forward to wardecs as a change of pace for a week.
Another hint, always be nice in your conversations with your WTs. No smack talk, no "we will not give into terrorists, etc". If they offer you a ransom then ask politely "would you be willing to accept x" instead of "LOL we have no money, screw you you mean man!" Look at their killboards and see who they've hit before and contact them for advice and to find out if they're the type that honors their word.

Edited by: Alazontez Gallenteur on 21/06/2010 16:44:30 You can either run from a wardec, or you can use it as an opportunity. How I recommend to proceed is to use this as a chance to gain experience and learn to fight smart. Watch that video that was posted before, hit other sites and read some forums, learn some basic tactics. Fit up some T1 frigs and cruisers and go get yourself blown up a few times, hell you guys might even get lucky and land a kill. Even a T1 cruiser, fully T2 fitted and rigged is only gonna cost you like 20M, thats somewhere in the ballpark of a few hours mining. No big deal. If you don't have the skills for T2 fit or rigs then you are looking at considerably cheaper ships with almost no cost after insurance. You outnumber them 3 to 1, get all your guys together get organized and fight smart, you might just have some fun and get a few kills. Here's a few other tips for your situation.
Fly cheap: They wont be, so if you actually manage to land a kill it'll even you up quickly. Learn the basics: Fight smart cause you aren't gonna take them without some tricks. EWAR: Electronic warfare is a force multiplier and the basic skills required are quickly obtainable. Use as much of it as possible in your situation. Fly what you have decent skills for: I.E. don't dock the hulk and go pickup a Mega with medium blasters Only fly what you can afford to lose: pretty simple really Fly it like you stole it: As soon as you undock, consider it blown up, and fly it accordingly. Don't worry about losses: You are an indy corp, WTF do you care if your killboard looks like ****.
Just my .02 isk. Hope there was a bit of wisdom hidden in that drivel. ---------------------------------------------- There is no honor in war, only victory and defeat

There is no point in asking for protection when all that has happened is a declaration of war.
Wait for them do actually do something besides throwing ISKs at the game mechanics. Keep an eye on local and try to find the names of members of the corp that is war deccing you. Run locators to see where they are and watch their online status. --

30 vs 10. You have 3 to 1 numbers. Try fighting. I've seen complete and utter fail fleets die but they fought. Even if you are miners and die horribly giving fights. And being civil about it and having fun earns some respect. Not a lot because you're, well, carebears. But some. Signature removed for inappropriate content. Zymurgist |

QFT. A corp that isn't willing to defend themselves and provide protection for their members doesn't deserve to be a corp imo. Me and most of the people I know would probably drop the dec if our target corp engaged smartly with a cheap t1 fleet. Not because of the threat posed, or the fact that the loot from cheapest named t1 cruisers barely covers the ammo to blow them up, but because that shows me that the corp is willing to fight for their right to be a corp.

How come there is not a group of pvpers that stay in noob corps then get hired to join a war deced mining corp? They stay in the corp till the war dec is over and viola. Would make for some surprise butt sex pvp. I guess no one does that because it means they lose their corp name and blah blah, corp kb, blah blah. Was just a thought.

Hi Maxizinian.
You've raised an important question for many empire corps, and the responses you've received contain many insights. Allow me to systematize these a tad, emphasizing four options.
1. Fight the war. You can do this on your own, or hire others. The advice shared in this column is very helpful in this regard. I'd add requiring all your members to have an out of corp hauling alt to help supply themselves. I'd also suggest you look at the war-fighting rules of Eve University. They've developed a tried and true method of reducing the impact of wars that demotivates your enemies.
2. Sidestep the war. You can stay docked for a week or two, but that isn't much fun. Instead, require your members to train up their hauling alt in a complementary production activity. This way, if they are not mining, they can be actively engaged in some other aspect of production. Do not allow anyone in corp to speak to these pirates except the diplomat. Make sure he or she is someone who is level headed and can ignore the tween trash talk that pirates and other curs like to indulge in. Never, ever pay a ransom. It simply rewards bad behaviour, and puts you on a list for a return engagement.
3. Shield yourselves from wars. Create and or join an alliance. Alliances make an initial or renewed wardec costly enough to deter casual griefers. Develop and recruit a set of pvp characters. When war comes, send your production characters out to pasture in npc corps, and fight with the pvp characters. You can create in-game channels and use voice comms to keep everyone in contact.
Please note that serially jumping your entire group from one corp to the other is regarded as an exploit. Doing so occasionally is not, nor is sending your non-pvpers out to pasture for a tad.
4. Get political. Eve is as much a political game, as it is a pvp or production game. So speak up and give your support to proposals, discussions and CSM candidates who want to rebalance the relationship between pirates and anti-pirates. Assign one of your well-spoken members the role of political adviser with the responsibility to voice your corps concerns and positions in the forums on an ongoing basis.
Pvp is an indispensable part, but not the only part, of Eve. Personally, its my favourite activity. The broken war mechanics, a failed bounty system, the lack of a treaty system for collective security, and so on hamper the ability of anti-pirates to help protect high sec and the near reaches of low sec through pvp. So too does the lack of organization on the part of many high sec corps. This makes it open season for griefers in empire. Don't let a lack of planning or engagement make you their victims. You want to be proactive, not reactive.
