I am new to carriers. Can you please list all necessary skills to be effective in carrier. (include all, and you can split them in groups, like this group helps you with triage, this ones for armor repping, this one with jumping..etc.)

This lists all the skills you could possibly need in a carrier, and it even has them divided into groups.

A few questions... How much skillpoints do you have? How much in Spaceships, how much in support? How long have you played?
The fact is, carriers are mostly used in 0.0 corp/alliances and then as support vessels, and the skill requirement list is a bad one. I would say 1-2 years of skill training required!
Personally I have not seriously gone in to train capital ships, although I do have some of the skills. The fact is its usefulness is very limited, its quite expensive and its a target beacon.
Now, ofcource if you feel you still want to train for carriers, be my guest! But I hope you think it through!

Thank you for answering.
Indeed i forgot to mention that i only do pvp and i live in 0.0. I am on a crossroad of buying cap alt or continuing to train my current alt for carriers. I would rather buy gallente cap alt but since i cant find one for decent price i will probably train my caldari alt for carrier > suppercarrier later on.
As for skills, i have all normal sub cap pvp skills trained.
I plan to use carrier for hotdropping people with the rest of he crew in the first place, then transport my stuff, and fleet cap fights on the third place.
i hope this info helps and the question still stands as which skills should be trained as most important skills.

Basically you need a ton of skills. the big ones are Racial battleship 5-something like 30 days. Capitial Ships 3=Couple days( x 14 training multiplier) Advanced Spaceship Command 5=17 days, Racial Carrier 1=minutes, Drone Interfacing 5=17ish days. Theres a bunch of nav skills like warp drive 5, jump drive yadayada, and a few others. just look at the prerequs for your appropriate carrier.

in Addition to the Prerecquisites for go inside:
1/skill for capital module
2/skill for fighters
3/skill for jump its sadly the biggest waste of time.
And for be a better carrier pilot:
1/ enhance your skill in: - capacitor - dps (fighter/carrier skill/smartbomb) - tanking,(mainly skill for boost resist passive) - capital ship (agility)
2/ use isk in better fitting. -meta lvl resist and capacitor module -rig t2

To get into the carrier you need the prerequisites for the carrier skill and the required carrier skill. To be combat effective you need the skills to fit the capital modules (cap rep for yourself and the assistance modules your own carrier gets the bonus for be that remote capital armor shield or capasitor etc) and the skills for fighters. To be able to actually use the ship in a usefull fashion and to join in on capital ops you need to maximize your capasitor skills and get all your jump skills to lvl 4. Cap groups move at the rate of the slowest ship and thus usually if you can't make the jumps and if you would slow down the fleet you don't get to go along. ___ P.S. Post with your main. Edited by: Baneken on 27/06/2010 19:26:32 I think the biggest question is when are you ready to to spend those 1,3 billion ISK for those skill books ?
Edit: you need shield management V for capital shield operation or rather any skill/module beginning with 'capital' needs "parent skill" at V.
