As you are all aware CCP plan to execute lagg at 9am tomorrow, appeals were made but the execution will go ahead while this generally will remove a great evil from Eden it will sadly secure doors for a different evil
Thats right Blob warfare will be so common in 0.0 except this time there will be no valiant warrior to stop it.
I beg CCP to allow the lagg monster to live but be exiled to 0.0 only.

One can wish...
Honestly, with all the stuff that has been added, it looks as if the simulation engine is just stretched beyond it's limit.
New yaaarrrdware unfortunately won't magically fix this.

I posted otherwise. I haven't been around at that time, but I see that Dominion changed a lot about sov and 0.0 stuff. The system upgrades for mining/ratting/whatever, plus the track of all sov units ticking and sov buster units...
Of course it could have been some behind the scenes change in code that wrecked it all and above things don't have a major impact.
One thing is certain, tomorrow is just a network upgrade, severs will remain the same, so lag improvements will be minimal if any.

At least there's one person who won't be disappointed tomorrow. Fear not, these "upgrades" will have minimal effect on gameplay since they are only setting up the framework for future performance-enhancing hardware upgrades.

While I'm fairly optmistic overall about the server upgrade, it remains to be seen what effects it will have.

Especially since CCP can't get rid of lag unless they plan on upgrading the entire internet infrastructure and connections of every subscriber all over the world.

I'm betting there will be a lot of disappointed people tomorrow at 1500 when the servers still aren't back online.
That's a lot of work to do in 8 hours even if they have no major issues.

Well guess what: Server performance isn't affected at all by one dude having shaky internet. It won't be affected at all by CCP moving their servers around either. It has to be battled on a software and game design level and CCP has been moving backwards on that front since Dominion.

While it is true that software and game design are crucial elements in the "lag war", hardware improvements are hardly of little consequence.
Quote: Most of the traffic on the network in TQ is happening between the servers on the internal network. While the routers we use are quite powerful (Cisco 7600's with the RSP720 route processors), our internal switching needed a kick in the pants. With the move we are going to be adding about 800% capacity to our side to side network along with some really nice Cisco Distributed Forwarding Cards (DFC3) to the network blades themselves to help reduce the latency and reduce burden on the supervisor cards that run the switches.
I have a feeling the software/game design changes you mention are probably what was being referred to later in the post as being discussed in upcoming dev blogs. ===== If you go to Za'Ha'Dum I will gank you. |

Irrelevant. "Lag" in EVE has almost nothing to do with /ping between client and TQ. That kind of lag might get you killed in CS:S, but its mostly irrelevant in EVE.
Lag in EVE is node getting so overloading it starts delaying its responses to client(s) more and more until full collapse/node crash. Your request for sim update gets to server fast enough to not make difference. And servers reply message travel time would be same and negligible. BUT! Time it takes between server receives your request to the time it services it AND to the time the other parts of code get to transmit the reply to you.
That is the critical loop and that is where the lag is.

They should hook into the HARDON collider's network which was built from scratch and separate from the internet and spans a few continents to handle the petabytes of data it is going to be generating that would crash and burn the normal internet.

Did you mean the Large Hadron Collider? I know it's great and how that can make you think about hardons.
*EDIT* In before: I told you this couldn't affect lag even if someone's life was on the line.

I had a mind once, but alas, I seem to have forgotten where I left it.
