Edited by: Yuda Mann on 24/06/2010 19:11:49 Sept 2007: Eve hits new max concurrent player record of 35,000
Oct, 2008: Ghost training is eliminted. Thousands of indignant players threaten to quit eve without giving me their stuff and pretend to be psychic, claiming that CCP will lose revenue because of the emo-rage caused by this change.
Jan, 2009: Eve hits new max concurrent player record of 45,000
Nov, 2009: The last post is made in the epic ghost training thread which finally dies a long awaited death.
June, 2010: Eve hits new max concurrent player record of 60,453.
Discuss.
fail edit: After reading all the posts from people threatening to quit or demanding to be compensated for downtime I wanted to see if there really was any damage to CCP at all by people threatening to quit over the most epic tears generating change in the history of Eve. Run on sentence ftw. Turns out there wasn't. Please keep this in mind if you find yourself threatening to quit because your little feelings got hurt. Not only does nobody care, but Eve will continue to grow after you're gone because it's THAT GOOD.

I would say the numbers pretty much speak for themselves, and (as was inevitable) proved me correct. ===== If you go to Za'Ha'Dum I will gank you. |

I have quit because of the DT.
Seriously. I Unsubbed just a few hours ago, but then I simply had to hack my way into the forums to whine some more. ----------- Why is it called common sense, when it's clearly very rare.
I had a mind once, but alas, I seem to have forgotten where I left it.

It was that low? Damn..So my guess of 67,531 for the contest was a huge, huge over-shot. XD Maybe next year! \o/

People shouldn't feel entitled recompense ... I agree thats sort of ridiculous.. .. it comes with the territory ...
But there is a difference between entitlement and courtesy. You don't go empty handed to a party, you'll offer to buy a freind a cup of coffee or something if you kept him waiting , a restaurant might comp you a free drink if they botched your order.
Its just a pleasant and gracious way of handling things to give a little something... a few days of training shouldn't cost them anything (once they have the system in place) and in the scheme of things really has next to no impact on game balance etc if the average play period is 6 months and other play for years...far less than 1% of skills for all but the newest characters.
When' you're accustomed to being treated with courtesy by retailers and recreational companies it feel really jarring if a company just doesn't go through the motions.

The second you mention or ask for compensation, it's no longer done as a courtesy and you can no longer claim to not be entitled.

Some logic here but its making a black and white argument...and yeah if I had to go boolean I'd take your side.
But - First, my tone was not asking but talking about the situation in general.. perhaps going foreward, perhaps even more generally to apply whenever any corporation makes an accidental slight in which they have an easy abilty to toss you little courtesy bone that won't cost them much.
Getting beyond the "asking or mentioning" its important to understand that compensation =! courtesy gift (or whats the sign for some-times but not always.)
There are plenty of times where you slight someone and can't make it right...say saying something you regret your girlfriend. You can't correct the situation.. no real recompensation, but you can bring her flowers. She knows what its all about.. isn't really ooed or awed by it , but appreciates at least that you went through the motions. We assume that she also will enjoy the flowers on the table for a few days (hard for some of us to believe that the flowers actually have an intrinsic value to most girls beyond who gave them to her)
Flowers aren't compensation they are a peace offerring and a little gift is diplomatic gift.
