I believe that manufacturing could be a far more interesting endeavor with a few minor changes to the way corp roles work. I find the current corp management tools far too broad, and it makes it impossible to have a truly cooperative industry/manufacturing corporation due to theft and trust issues. I propose a finer grain of control over accounts and activities.
Here is my suggestion concretely:
{Production Manager} Have a corp role that allows members to access specific corp hangers for the purpose of starting or delivering a manufacturing job but deny them the ability to remove or move anything in those hangers.
{Purchasing Manager} Allow members access to corp wallets for the purpose of purchasing items off the market, to be placed in a corp hanger upon purchase, without allowing that member to withdraw funds from the corp wallet. This is the most complex role, and could be fine grained even further in my mind, allowing the corp to set maximum and minimum prices and quantities (purchase orders) for the corporation.
{Shipping Manager} To a large extent, this role is already created, however, I suggest a slight modification, which would allow members to move material from hanger to hanger, and create courier contracts from hanger in station A to hanger in station B, but not allow then to move material from corp hanger to personal hanger.
{Research Manager} Similar to the production manager, but allowing them to run invention jobs on bpcs in a corp hanger and deliver the results to a corp hanger without allowing them to move the bpcs to their personal hangers.
inb4, they won't change ****, but I think that my suggestions could seriously increase the cooperation in manufacturing corporations, and we all know this game reaches its full potential when people collaborate. I look forward to hearing suggestions for improvement, or how to give this idea traction with devs/future releases if it seems to be popular.
Thanks for your time.

Edited by: Ghoest on 24/06/2010 20:35:05 Simple fix to corp industry would be a "corporate exchange." at corporate hangers.
Officers would set prices and locations. And give buy or sell access to the hanger.
This would pretty much solve the major problem with EVE industry - it has no book keeping mechanism with in corps.
Wherever you went - Here you are.

I have been struggling for a couple weeks now on how to go about safely recruiting people for my corp and these roles would help immensely....if they were done right.

This would be more like setting up an inter-corp market where people would have to buy or sell items into the hangers.
The idea behind this fine-grain member access is so that poor members who have manufacturing/invention skills but lack capital can use corp resources (and presumably be compensated by the corp) without exposing the corp to theft.

It wouldnt be a free market. It would have preset prices. So calling it an exchange makes more sense.
