Cebraio wrote: Sorry to disappoint you but bumping will never be fixed by applying damage to the ships. That simply doesn't work well with the EVE physics and tick rate. Think about large fleet battles. They would become a clusterfuck of bumping hostiles and friendlies to death.
I totally support the idea of making EVE have demolition-derby style physics. |

All they had to do was move.....how many ice fields are out there, no way James could cover all of them. My alt has mined the Halaima field for weeks without paying and as soon as James enters system move to Kamio, it's not rocket science. If his greifing moves to Kamio I will just find another ice/asteroid system. Congrats on a profitable business but I do hope bumping is fixed, not saying it should not happen but a ship should take considerable armour/hull damage. A frigate or cruiser moving at 3km/s should pop if it rams a bs sized ship.
Good luck with your venture
Once upon a time, James wrote a rather lengthy post about highsec miners. To summarize, he stated that highsec miners will whine about each and every possible little thing that prevents them from mining in peace and will loudly petition CCP to nerf whatever prevents them from doing so until they cave in to their childish demands.
Most people will see where I'm going with this, but seeing as another part of his post concluded that most if not all highsec miners are effectively bots, grasping my point may be beyond your programming. Err, I mean, intellect. So, I'll spell my point out for you: You're proving him right. . |

Everything is working as intended: The bumper should prevail over a highsec miner, if he has sufficient courage and skill and (most importantly) heart. Now, some might argue that bumping should be buffed and highsec miners should be nerfed, but I would keep the mechanics as they are, since I'm used to them.
Nothing wrong with mechanics for mining, you target a rock then fire your mining laser at it, how else would it work? You only say bumping is working as intended is because it suits you. However the sensible fix is not within the capabilities of the game. I do however enjoy reading your posts concerning your enterprise and the propaganda that goes with it, you could teach the Chinese a trick or two I guess. |

One popular suggestion for changing mining mechanics would be to create some kind of "mini-game" out of it, wherein the better you do, the better your yield. This is frequently proposed as a way to make mining more fun and lessen the ability of bots/AFK miners to continue their undesirable activities.
Quote:You only say bumping is working as intended is because it suits you. Well, I suppose you could argue that for anyone who says anything is working as intended. But I would also point out sheer precedent. Almost nothing's been in the game as long as bumping has. As far as I know, the bumping mechanics have never been changed. Over nearly a decade, there have been hundreds of thousands--if not millions--of players who could have complained about bumping, but only a tiny fraction ever have. Arguably, it's one of the most uncontroversial parts of the game. |

keep doing what your doing but, be aware that bumping someone in highsec after they ask you to stop is a sign of aggression and is reportable.

Aggression in EVE? No way. James you've gone too far. Next we'll have people shooting at each other. |

Sorry to rain on your parade Rain? From what I can tell, it's not even misting.
Seriously though, I'm always impressed by the way random EVE players can confidently state what is and is not "reportable" while being completely and utterly wrong. |

But that means the space-camo on my ship might get scratched! How...unthinkable, how demeaning! Only one way to fix this treachery...
...kill all of the AFK Miners until the threat goes away. |

I was in my Amarr trading alt and I flew in to see James in action and was lucky enough to see him! I posted what I saw in the previous thread about his operations.
I have "lived in alternate universes" and it never ceases to amaze me that the most "peaceful" people tend to be the rudest and demeaning of all players when they get attacked/ opposed or whatever.
I have seen James handle himself and his customer base with nothing but the utmost respect, I cannot say the same for his customers, who he is only trying to help.
In the other realities I have lived in we always chalked it up to the people not being able to adapt to ever changing situations. I honestly see this as a way for SMART miners to get ahead of their competition and not a burden to their operations.
I say the above in all honesty, I am a trader in a mining based corp. I am proud of the miners I associate with, we are in a current war and they adjust and try to find the fun in the situation presented. I have not seen one mail in our corp complaining. |
