Armsdealers Credo:
"They're not after me because I'm supplying weapons to some questionable characters. They're after me because I'm supplying weapons to every questionable character." ----------- Why is it called common sense, when it's clearly very rare.
I had a mind once, but alas, I seem to have forgotten where I left it.

Strikes don't work without 1) organized labor, and 2) a mechanism to keep "scabs" from taking the workers' places. Organization can be done (though crime and punishment is a stupid place to do it), but you'd still need a way to discourage scabs. Therefore, the best move for miners on strike would be...to roll combat alts and suicide gank the scabs.

It's very unlikely that it hasn't been thought of before. It's a lot more likely that it has and it just never went anywhere. Trying to organize random gamers is like herding ADHD cats who have eaten nothing but speed and Red Bull for a week. There would never be enough unity to pull something like this off. I would be amazed if even 5% of industrialists participated.

... you are aware that speed and caffeine work opposite in ADHD people (or cats) ? Herding a bunch of ADHD cats would become easyer if you fed them caffeine and speed all week

Originally by: DocKevorkian With Hulkageddon coming up once again, I'm left wondering why the miners put up with this.
While I think it's fine for Helicity to organize her week of madness and mayhem, what I can't understand is why the industrialists of the game don't organize a counter to it, using the biggest trump card they have: the market. Simply put, they should organize a strike.
Everyone knows where the real power of this game lies. To prove it, don't sell a single thing during the week or two prior to hulkageddon. Not one single unit of trit, not one battleship, not a single mod. Let the gankers pay rediculous prices for their gank ships when the industialists finally start selling again when the strike stops.
In this way, the extra profit from selling the gankers their suicide ships would go a long way to covering any losses.
If they were that well co-ordinated and organised, they'd be be in W-Space or 0.0, not stuck in hi-sec in the first place.
By definition, the miners in hi-sec are the ones who will not do anything pro-active
Malcanis' Law: Whenever a mechanics change is proposed on behalf of "new players", that change is always to the overwhelming advantage of richer, older players. |

Edited by: ihcn on 27/06/2010 15:40:45 The real, economic reason why a strike won't work is called the tragedy of the commons.
Basically, if a strike does work and mineral prices double, it's in every individual's best interest to start selling minerals, as they stand to make a huge amount of money from it. They do this despite knowing that it's in the best interest of the group to keep striking; they know that many other people will be selfish and break the strike, so if you don't break it as well then you're missing out, as well as not accomplishing anything by continuing to strike.

Edited by: Shooty Yumster on 27/06/2010 21:31:02 The one thing the whining carebears forget when suggesting these really horrible ideas is that a lot of pvp'ers do industry too, and they'd be more than happy for carebears to quit playing and make prices go up so they could cash in.

Thanks for posting this little tidbit, it was a good read, not often I see some intelligent responses posted on game forums.

OP is correct, the miners should organise and hold the market to ransom. In fact I think he should lead this diabolical scheme.
Id also be interested in seeing a youtube vid of him herding cats.
