Pew pew in space, park ship (or land if smaller one) in planet orbit, land on the surface and continue playing in FPS manner... Or land in your city and continue playing in RTS manner - by building automated industry complex with orbital defense, or something similar. Previous players could defend structures from land assault. Or to bring your dread in planet orbit and start bombardment of enemy infrastructure on the surface.
Yeah DUST will offer something similar, but true experience would be only if players could do everything from same client.
Imagine new roles, vehicles, air units, combat types.
None of current existing games (as I know) offers something like this.

It'll happen =D
Ambulation first
and then once Dust is dead on the consoles (or the consoles die) i think it wouldn't be hard for them to reuse that code and just gave it to eve =D
its what i love about eve... every year it just keeps getting deeper and deeper... 50 years from now it'll be a reality simulator =P

CCP are adding Dust to the eve universe, what other games add to a universe with new games linked to it, none is the answer. So this begs the question what else do they plan to add to this wonderful universe?
I know world of darkness is a white wolf pen and paper game set in our time today on earth, doesnt it strike you odd, would'nt it be more fitting if this new 'secret' game was being developed to slot into the eve universe, like dust is?
Seams to me CCP want us to have everything we want from a 'universe' be it space pew pew, in your face FPS madness, what else is missing, perhaps a role playing game on the planets themselves.

Well they said many times they wanted to make some sort of ultimate sci-fi game, probably containing everything OP said. I believe them, but after 7 years we're still here stuck in our spaceships, with some dots we're able to drop down to planets. So I just don't think it's realistic to expect any real breakthrough in next 7 years as well.

Not really. Microsoft focuses all their gaming attention to the 360. PC sales suck and pirating hurts them too. They would just rather avoid that. I'd go so far to say that your comment was "dumb" since it ignores the last 5 years of game publishing trends. CEO, Citadel Logistics Group |

PC sales do not suck at all, STEAM is doing wonderful to the point they have ridiculous sales often (205% rise in unit sales for the fifth straight year in a row from 2008-2009). Microsoft just wants control over the games that PCs don't provide. What does happen in the PC market compared to console, is that all the crap gets ignored. to this year already. Also another issue is that digital distribution is not counted into the PC sales counts that are often used, they use brick and mortar store sales.

You're a pod pilot, not a jedi.
The best you could hope for would be, pew pew in space, and pew pew from orbit (in space) down onto a planet. But that wouldn't be very balanced.
Different games doing different things will be cooler, since they'll all have individual characters even if they're played by people who play the many different games.
The only time i could see chars crossing over would be a game where you have both larger vessel captains, and fighter pilots. ------
