i just finished readind World war Z (linky for those who don't know what i am talking about) According to the book Iceland will be completely overrun, so my question what will be done to assure further expansion for us players who are locked up in our basement.

Great book, cant wait for the movie. Dont remember Iceland being overun, seems strange as The Zeds froze up in the cold and I assume Iceland gets pretty cold.

It's a controversial subject for sure. Previous forum analysis has shown that the accounts in both Wolrd War Z and the Zombie Survival Guide, while somewhat conflicted, may be overly pessimistic regarding the Icelandic state of readines.

I'm pretty sure thats why CCP just moved Tranquility. So that we might still be able to mine Veldspar in case of a zombie outbreak.

In WWZ the zeds are unaffected by water regardless of depth or pressure, so they can walk to Iceland and since the outbreak starts in spring (IIRC) Iceland isn't frozen yet.
The EVE server was in London, not sure where they've moved it to.

Server was moved to a different room in the same data storage facility and remains as zombie prone as ever in London.

Edited by: stoicfaux on 28/06/2010 16:07:55 It's a weakest link problem. The electrical grid requires constant care and feeding. So if the people running the control centers, power plants, mines and wells are busy with Zeds, there's not going to be any power to keep the internet running. Never mind the infrastructure (food, transportation, etc.) needed to feed the people involved in power generation.
On the plus side, spam should be reduced dramatically, enough so that even a 300 baud modem connection should have more than enough bandwidth to serve as an internet backbone.

If only the zombies can be prevented from reaching Iceland in the first place, it'd actually be a very good place to ride out the war. Plenty of renewable energy from the geothermal plants.
And Iceland isn't that huge, perhaps it could be sheltered behind nets not unlike the Australian shark nets to prevent ocean floor-walking zombies from getting through.

you'd think you could drop depth charges and use undersea mines to stop alot of them. not to mention people sitting on the beach with machine gun emplacements. i mean, a single well fed machine gun could murder millions of them in a day. nub> you cant mine so you kill. |

True, but an army of waterlogged Zombies scares me. I mean, if you were stuck underwater for weeks and weeks possibly months on end looking for a new nation to devour, you'd be pretty p*ssed.
And p*ssed zombies don't die easily unless you score them headshots. --- I'm not trying to be a turd on purpose. I'm just telling you how you are wrong.
Ok, yeah, its on purpose. |

The Zeds were pretty much immune to pressure type damage. There was a scene where the Zeds took minimal damage from an artillery barrage. The shock wave from shells/bombs tends to turn the insides of normal humans into jelly, but the Zeds didn't have that problem. Furthermore, the shells didn't have enough shrapnel to efficiently head kill a Zed. Basically, modern artillery was too overspecialized to kill squishy humans and was useless against zombies.
Plus there's the issue that the Zeds could walk across the ocean floor which is in itself telling about their resistance to extreme pressures.
Sea mines would be useless because I doubt you could design a new anti-personnel sea mine (really an underwater land mine since the Zeds are walking across the seafloor) and then build and deploy it in suitable quantities given the time frame involved.
You really ought to read the book. It has some interesting ideas about the logistics problems and the physics needed to kill zombies.

big geothermal powered electric fences would protect iceland. energize them with 1.21Gw so the zombies would all just burn on the ocean side.

This whole thing with creating entertainmnet about zombie outbreaks being a realistic situation is just getting plain wetahded.
If you want a comedic book along the same lines as the Zombie Survival Guide check out How to Survive A robot Uprising. At least that is within the realm of possibility
