Hi all I am new to the game and want to head towards pirating but not sure what is best to fly to be successful in the early stages was looking at e-war as I am Caldari but does this have enough punching power to kill other ships solo? any advice would be appreciated :)

i know this isn't what you want to hear since you said you want to solo pirate, but you will be much more successful (and possibly have more fun) in a gang, especially as a pilot with low skills.
join up with a griefing or pirating corp and you will be useful in a T1 frig with low skills.
then when you have some experience and skills built up, try the solo thing.

I would recommend you spend a few weeks-months in Red vs Blue first and try out pvp with them. These are two empire corporations that are under permanent war with each other. The goal of RVB is to provide easy access to pvp for new players and casual players who are looking for lots of explosions. Anyone can join them. While this is not true piracy, there are lots of easier targets to practice your pvp skill against that you don't have to spend 3-4 hours each evening searching for. After you rake up some kills, you can apply to real pirate corp and let them show you the ropes (place to find pirate corp).

Just don't trust them when they tell you that -3.3 sec status will be fine in 0.8 space.
Me: Hey guys, I'm pretty sure I'll get concorded if I go there. Blue: Nah, you'll be good. Concord: Your kind is not wanted Ezekeil Rage. Leave immediately. *BOOM* Me: Dangit.

Join Suddenly Ninjas. They will teach you how to infuriate and destroy high-SP characters using nothing but a T1 frigate.

Suddenly Ninjas
We're always recruiting. We'll help you start getting kills in High Sec immediately, probably solo within a week of joining. Most players do not think of us as part of the piracy community, but in High Sec, I think our results speak for themselves. Basically, if you're into stealing high value ships, ransoms, scams, blowing up stuff for profit, grand larceny, and other hijinks, you should give us a look-see.
As for your ship options, go skill up a blaster Merlin and pick some fights. It's a vastly underrated frigate. After that, the Blaster Moa is also a greatly maligned, but capable ship (in the right spot). The Caracal can be a Cara Fail or it can be very effective depending on fit and player skill. Caldari is generally underrated in PVP, which in the long run, will get you in more fights since you'll appear to be an easy KM.
all the best, solomar |
