Good day.
Simple question, When someone Flips my Jetcans and as a result turns red with a skull, can i attack them without getting concord popped? I noticed you dont get kill rights but had wondered about their icon change.
I realise its probably not the best idea taking on even a rifter with scout or combat drones from my miner but hey, a little knowledge goes a long way after all.

if their name on the overveiw starts flashing red then yes yo can shoot them. they stay blinky for 15 min from the last agresive action they made against you or your corporation, this can include shootinging you or stealing from your cans

They don't go flashy anymore, the default setting is that they go solid red. Only war targets blink.
The answer is still yes though :)

If im not wrong, canflippers can also attack you, as soon as you start to attack them! (thats why they flip actually )
So make sure youŠve got the right ship to strike back and a few corp mates for backup Or you will leave alot of isk on the field

Once you shoot, they can defend themselves and shoot you.
If they dont kill you and leave, they will get a bigger ship capable of killing you and return to where you are.
If that happens, dock up and wait out the aggression timer (15 mins).
After timer is up you can undock and they cannot attack you.
*never attack in your hulk, covetor, retriever, mack, etc. If you are going to kill a flipper, do it with a good combat ship.
*Can flippers aggress not only you but your entire corp. Anyone in corp can assist you.
Fight them until turmoil is no more and strike terror into their hearts. |

Basically, don't shoot at can flippers. It never turns out well.
I traded a Raven for an Ibis once because of an itchy trigger finger.
Got into a prolonged missile duel with a can flipper in a Retriever once. It was a waste of missiles because he had Remote Armor Repair.
Someone from a corp I was in shot at a can flipper. He just barely crawled away, but came back in a battleship. Cost to us, for lack of organization, was three Battle Cruisers.
Once I thought someone actually scored points against them. He managed to destroy three of their ships in less time than it takes to tell it. As a result, they forced him to kill off the character that did it.
My latest strategy is to pop the can whenever a suspicious ship gets close. All my mining ships have EC IIs so they can mine for 3 - 5 minutes without having to dump into a can. On the few occasions when the can flipper stayed around for more than a few minutes, I just used the mining ships to haul the ore down until they left.
They get bored fast. Boredom, IMHO, is the best weapon against can flippers.

I encountered my first can flipper when I warped in with my Iteron 4 to pick up the day's take. He was parked beside my can in a faction combat ship. I warped out and then a few minutes later jumped back to the belt. He was gone, presumably either bored because I didn't shoot at him or going to get enough ship to transpo my stuff.
So I grabbed the can and ran for it. Word of warning though.... this results in you being flagged as the criminal so the original flipper's entire corp can shoot you without fear of Concord. I was afraid the guy had left some corp mates cloaked in the belt but no one showed up so I was able to get away with it. The system didn't have any stations so I warped out to the middle of nowhere rather than risk showing red to someone at a jumpgate. That was before I learned to effectively tank my ships.

Edited by: Sililos on 05/07/2010 12:52:40 Hmm i see. Good advice here but it leaves one question, Is there an effective way to Kill a can flipper? Im a bit of a hothead when wronged by someone, love being able to teach someone that being a jackass doesnt put you at the top of the food chain. I have noticed however that pilots even in lesser ships are good at taking me out regardless of what im in although im skilled enough to be able to hold my own against most rats i have encountered.

Don't mine in jetcans (except in missions) or mine in secure containers.
Jetcans is just asking for trouble. Most canflippers are rather well skilled up in just combat skills, so it's usually not a good idea to act agressively. Sometimes they even have (cloaked) corp members near so those can inteverne when you return with a combat ship.
Best way to kill them if having a corp member in a big ship nearby.

The only mining method more efficient than jet canning is using an Orca. Trust me, if you are smarter than the can, no can flipper will ever get anything from you except frustration.
If you shoot at a can flipper, someone is going to lose a ship. Odds are that it will be you. So, maintain the moral high ground and let them wallow in their own filth.

Well, fighting players isn't the same as fighting rats. You need a PVP-fit ship, not a mining-fit or ratting-fit ship. Second, you need the information advantage. If you're mining in a belt, the can flipper has a pretty good idea of how you're fit, and what you're doing. Do you know how he's fit and what his tactics are? (A good way to find out: try can-flipping yourself for a while.)
You can turn this around on him by doing the unexpected. Fit what looks like a mining ship, but is actually designed to web, warp scramble, and tank the incoming damage of a frigate can flipper, holding him down while your corpmates arrive (either from the next system, or cloaked nearby).
For example, try this bait osprey setup or something like it.
