My idea is simple:
Make it so that one can't fire through an asteroid/station other celestial that missiles/lasers/projectils/etc would be unable to firethrough.
Why? It would make PVP/PVE in asteroid belts a bit more interesting.
How would it work? Every bullet that hits the asteroid/celestial is counted as a miss.
I was also toying with the idea that firing through ships at your target would cause damage to the ship in the way?
Just some thoughts.

This was brought up in the Assembly Hall some time ago.
The general consensus was that while it would be a good idea it would not be technically feasible. Not at the moment at least.
The servers are already straining under the weight of players alone. Adding more code that makes more calculations per shot, per player within a system already struggling would cause even more problems (i.e. lag). _______________________

I always thought that this idea was good, but I have to agree with Shah - the server just can't handle it right now... --- I'm not trying to be a turd on purpose. I'm just telling you how you are wrong.
Ok, yeah, its on purpose. |

Have you ever played an MMO where someone appears to be ghosting along, or skipping to a point furhter along the direction they were traveling?
This is your client or connection running a little slowly (I think)...
The looser of every fight would begin blaming their connection or crying that their opponent had a faster computer.....
At least thats what I think might happen (I could be wrong)
Please note: I still believe that enviromental features should have an impact in the game and ammo shouldnt go right through roids/other ships/stations.... but as was stated above, I dont think Eve could support that at this time!

If collision detection would be available in asteroid belts, it could become quite the chore to try and blow up barges and exhumers in a belt full of asteroids.
+2 for barge/exhumer maneuverability in asteroid belts.
Imagine the pirates actually having to pay attention to the line of sight of their weapons. The whaaaaaaaaaambulance would make a stadium full of vuvuzelas sound like a soft whisper in a thundering storm. That alone would be worth it :-).

Nonsense.. imagine large scale battles, where friendlies are blowing each other to shreds, just because they are in front of each other.. As for hitting celestial, image some ship orbiting you and you have to rotate your camera after him, just because you don't want to hit a station and trigger concord (high sec or 0.0 true sec).
I think we should think how to improve UI not to make it even worse.

The notion of friendly fire, has anybody ever bothered to acquaint you with the concept?

Really easy to solve: just add an option
{fire control} [dont shot corp] [dont shot ally] [dont shot blue] [dont shot neutral]
if somebody block your fire window that's in the list your turrets just wont shot and youll need to manouver to get a free los. guided missiles are guided so can just burn fuel to avoid the obstacle (nice boost to missile ships in fleet that can just hide behind heavier tanked ships and still shot, counterbalancing the low missile speed), unguided missiles get a bit nerfed as they have to self destruct so you'll lose ammunitions.
The only glaring remaining problem comes from cloaked ships, just make so that concord wont consider hitting a cloaked ship as an aggression (as its the cloaker that chose to sneak near the shoting ship, not the shoter) - this can be made more or less ganky by considerying or not gate-cloak for this rule.
Still all this code would need server at least an order of magnitude more powerfull that what we have, so its just a dream.

If this were played upon a stage now, I could condemn it as an improbable fiction. |

But therein lies your new challenge: Thinking about formations. Thinking about Tactics. Finding firing solutions. After all if it were real you wouldn't just be able to fire through other ships as if they were ghosts. I personally believe it would make morons in blobs a thing of the past while making Fleet warfare quite interesting indeed.
