First off I would like to say that I like how the R&D system works in Eve, though it could do with a couple tweaks.
I was wondering if it is possible to get a BPO email from an R&D agent even if you have not been doing the missions in a while?
I've read anecdotal evidence both ways.
It would be nice to get an official statement on this, or possibly if there are enough people that have recieved a BPO without doing the missions that would point to a definite answer.

You get a fixed amount of RP per a day, missions just get you extra RP if you do them (supposedly double). I have known plenty of people to get BPO's when they havent done R&D missions for months.

I've gotten a bpo without doing missions for over a month and a half. This was after they changed it so he'd stop eve mailing me all the time. He went silent for weeks and one day poof I've had a breakthrough!

But was it a new mail or did you just happen to go by for a visit?
I try to get to my agents at least once a week to clear the mail stoppage and to see if I've been offered a BPO.
It would be nice to know If I can just forget about the visits and KNOW that a mail will come through if a BPO does happen to get offered.
I collect ships. Can I have yours? |

You will get a eve-mail if they have a breakthrough i.e. BPO.
No need to visit unless you want to start to start doing the missions after a gap.

I got an eve-mail offer of a bpo when I had neither done missions not received mission mails for a couple of weeks. It was a bit annoying actually as I was in 0.0 at the time so had to run a blockade to go pick up the bpo.
Those crafty agents, they never make it easy.

Stopped really doing R&D missions 4 months or so ago. Did the odd one since then if i was passing and it was quick. The eve-mails "we have hit a snag" stopped a long time ago but the day before Shiva launch i received a mail out of the blue "we have had a breakthrough" and to option to give up my accumulated points for a crisp new Helios BPO
Needless to say i took my agent up on her offer, removed her from my KOS list, and picked up the BPO that day before Shiva was rolled out (just in case).
Once Shiva had steadied itself i then ditched that agent for a brand spanking new level 4 agent
So although i have done agent missions in the past they seemed to have a direct bearing on the offer and yes i did recieve an eve-mail telling me of the offer.

ive done alot of research agents missions and not got any offer, so I think Ill stop doing them :P
