I am currently saving up for either a carrier or dread. My question arrises what is more fun to fly is a dread worth 2 more weeks of grinding? I do like big guns but will it see much action? Yes im in 0.0

It's my understanding most cap pilots fly both. I'd speak to someone in your corp or alliance that arranged cap ops to get an idea of what you will be doing.
Overall carriers have a wider range of applications than dreads. They fill support roles in gangs better.

Carriers are good for supporting fleets (mostly in terms of remote repair support) and hauling ships and stuff over long distances.
Dreds are good for killing capitals, structures, and being fire support for the occasional lol-battleship gang. _______________________

Capitals are not 'fun to fly' in most circumstances. You just sit there either repping something till its fixed or shooting something till it goes boom.
The question is one of utility.
A carrier can be used for combat, POS repping, logistics, and safer, faster hauling between lowsec and 0.0.
A dread can be used to shoot structures and capitals with the support of other dreads, carriers and a support fleet.
Ergo, a carrier is far more versatile and useful for a new capital pilot. I use my carrier almost daily; my dread undocks every few weeks at most. -- Killed me? Read about it in my blog! Northern Lights: Solo PVP in EVE Online

Just fly both :P
Your cap pilot will train skills that will benefit all other caps, but imo I would pick Dreads first, carriers tend to be the common cap to train for while they are nice and versatile they arent really fun to have if you dont enjoy logistics / repping --

A dread is bigger than a carrier.

If you do go for a dread either go for a rev / moros for the afk / drone benefits --

subtext in thread indicates to train dread to run around killing everyone who has their carriers out 24/7. but its your choice. There's 1, repeat 1, frigate in the T1 lineup designed to be a suicide tackler. the rest are for COMBAT. so don't tell me to tackle when I'm in a combat T1 frig. OR tell CCP to fix their mess. |

Edited by: Spurty on 02/07/2010 10:49:09 Carriers can be fun but dreads are always a bore.
I own two carriers. One for lolz pvp'ing and one for repping stuff (triage ftw),
I've owned a dread, waste of isk 99.9999% of It's existence before I self destructed the hull (insurance worth more than I was offered for it).
Will never own another dread, too expensive . One plex and you can buy a carrier as well. Far easier to replace NAPS: forcing you to play 'their' game |
