àwell, that provides some hints as to what the actual "problem" might be from their point of view.
Anyway, time to get digging in the video archives. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

For those pilots who are too young to remember, (or missed), the hilarious and now 'infamous' eve-tv broadcasts during the 07 tourney... this thread might give you some idea of what you missed..

Really? Acting calm and collected is the best way to deal with someone/something. Gets them to stop responding angrily. They called you a troll because they didn't feel like reading, so just ignore them. If you can't do that, then how do you call yourself someone trained in debate? Do you really need a strict rule-set when you argue?
Don't argue with fools, bystanders may not be able to tell the difference.
The evidence has been presented numerous times, but like flat earthers, climate change and holocaust deniers it makes not one jolt of difference.

Really? Go ahead and check the most recent and biggest learning skills debate thread. You'll see a lot of people saying "Even CCP agrees they suck", but not ONE link to the supposed source -- not until after I asked for it.

And the source of this statment iirc is a short video interview by some random game site with a dev I can't be arsed to remember. God knows where it is but I'm sure someone with plenty of time and leet search skills will dig it up.

Watch from 38:00, someone asks a question about learning skills. The guy groans and explains how he's spent months thinking of a "fix" for them. One of the fixes he talked about was to reimburse the skill points spent, which he said was not technically possible at the time. Since we now apparently have a SP distribution mechanism, naturally speculation has begun on whether the two facts are related.
I was wondering, myself, what the source was. Thank you for the link. :) __________________________________________________ Survivor of Teskanen, fan of John Rourke. |

Makes you wonder if removing them and letting you redistribute the sp and attrubute points are part of the incarna teaser release next expansion.

Following is what I believe would make the game better for new players, without annoying older players.
Get rid of x1 learning skills give all characters +5 to each attribute, leave in the x3 skills and the x1 skill named learning. Reimburse all characters skill points trained in the x1 skills

If learning skills are removed because they serve no real purpose and just waste peoples' time, can we look at warping and jumping next? I mean, nothing happens while warping or jumping except pretty graphics, so can't we just click on a system and instantly jump to anywhere in New Eden.
Also, since taking down undefended POSs are just excercises in math and time, can we just have a button for taking down an undefended POS, rather than wasting valuable noob time actually shooting at these things?
Oh...and same for ship-to-ship PvP, please. And mining.

Thats actually a pretty good idea. Though I do like just removing them altogether better.

Troll. But I'll bite.
All those things you listed serve a purpose. Even the learning skills served a purpose once upon a time but now they hinder more than they help so removing them would be the best solution for the overall balance of the game.

Edited by: Ranger 1 on 02/07/2010 21:46:40 Zeba, I think that most people arguing against removal of learning skills are doing so not because they love learning skills, but because no better mechanic for enhancing your attributes has been put forth (and they are adverse to the "boost everyone +10 now" school of thought).
If they are going to be replaced, at least make it an interesting new mechanic that solves more problems than it creates.
A rough idea for your consideration from the "ugly" thread.

Why is there need for "a mechanic for enhancing your attributes" at all? We already have implants, that will do fine imho. And there's remaps too. Already 2 fine "mechanisms to enhance attributes"
I think it¦s mainly, as you said, the "adverse to the "boost everyone +10 now" (AND get your SP and money refunded) kind of people who see a need for another mechanic for attribute boosts. For one strange uncomprehendible reason or other.

Because people have demanded such a mechanic since the game went live. That would be why we have advanced learning skills to begin with, they are a requested addition.
As for problems and exploits possible under the "give everyone +10" plan, read any of several dozen posts in that other thread that deal with that very point.

Perhaps people have requested ways to increase learning speeds because it was very slow to start with but I¦m very sure most would have been happy if it would have been faster in the first place. faster training > learning skills > no learning skills and very slow training

I haven¦t seen that. But what more exploits can you think of than in the times that people started off with 800k SP? And how bad is it really?

Nice pwnage.
EDIT: BTW Im an older player who has all the learning skills at 4 or 5. I think it would be great for the game if they removed them and just reimbursed us the SP. I dont really care if they improve everyones base stats or if we learn at a slower rate going forward.

About the atributes. Instead of giving everyone +10 atributes to all, why not add those to implants.
Same 5 implants per type, but the cheapest one adds 5, the best one ads 15, then the rest in between. 5 - 7 - 10 - 12 - 15 |

Its a bit like the rumour about pathetic lesion being able to jump in a system and not appear on local .many logs and evidence supplied and 70+ page thread.
CCP never denied it .
but they did release a patch where they said they had fixed the exploit/patch that lots of people claimed to exist.
one does wonder why no punishment was ever issued..............
one also wonders why something not deemed to be an exploit was fixed as an exploit.......
