While Planetary Interaction is definitely an interesting feature, with strong appeal for the micromanaging powerhouse in all of us. However, I feel like it is playing us with the limited control we have over extraction timers.
I'd like to be able to choose the duration of an extractor's operations. If we could choose to wear out a deposit in a time frame between 3 hours and 90 hours in increments of 1 hour (and with a depletion and extraction bell curve to match), I think the feeling of being gamed by the extractors would disappear.
Besides, fine grained control is what this feature is all about, right?

we concur and internally are looking to implement a slider instead of 4 generic deposit options so you can fine tune it to your desire.

I sure hope you also implement a global slider for all my planets. If the slider doesn't remember the position and/or can't be adjusted globally, the system will be even worse.
Ideally, I'd just set the slider globally for all my planets, press button, and all my extractors do their thing.

I would rather prefer that the extraction rate changes over time, and that you can reset the extraction cycle at any time.
So when you start the extractor you get the full extraction rate, like you get now at the 5 hour interval. After 5 hours it has sunken down to something between the 5 hour and 23 hour extraction rate. After 23 hours it's down to something between the 23 hour and 72 hour extraction rate, and so on.
Those who are active can restart their extractors as much as they want, while those who aren't pay for that with lower efficiency.
This doesn't FORCE you to log in at specfic times as the current system or a slider would do, but still rewards those that put time into it more than those who don't. It also reduces the clicking needed by 50% as you don't need to choose a source or set a slider. Then again the clicking will feel even more forced than it does today

Would this mean you could turn on your extractors for say a 10-11 hour cycle before you leave for work?
If so...my babies, have 'dem.
One tiny side note on that, it would be nice if you could change your deposit selection while in Edit Mode. I've got 6 planets running with on average 15-18 extractors, totalling roughly 100 extractors.
While trying to set them all to 5 or 23 hour cycles, my human side kicks in every now and then and I select the wrong deposit. If this happens when I got 10-15 deposits on the same planet already installed on deposits, I have to cancel and re-do them all. Would be nice if I could cancel a deposit selection/installation for a single extractor.

First, Yeah!
Second Originally by: Batolemaeus I sure hope you also implement a global slider for all my planets. ...
I think the use case is that people will want all their planets to finish at the same time and certainly all extractors on the same planet

I really like this. (or the alternative where the amount is fixed and the time lengthens. *after you start it, you might get 100 in 120 seconds, then 100 in 125 seconds .... until eventually it is 100 in 1800 seconds.
Either maintain the goal of rewarding people (or against-the-TOS software) who click more but makes it less like you feel you need alarmclock CTAs to click your planets. Why annoy/frustrate paying customers for no good reason if job/traffic/class/date run long? PI should be more towards fun and less towards seeing how much the users will endure.

I think best would be some combination of a slider and customizable defaults. So you can put in your favorite times and go on as it works right now or take the extra step on the exceptions where you manually adjust the slider to what you want.
Adding to that the ability to group extractors once they have a route for the material would put the streamlining of PI maintenance to the final stages. Anything beyond that would be automation though and that's to be avoided. -------- All I want is a better mankind.

I just hope you can slide it for a month and slide multiple extractors sametime.

Extraction rate changes sound good but I would like to question why I have to come back and restart the extraction process at all. Compared to other technology in the game; everlasting life through medical advancement in cloning; travel over vast reaches of space at speeds in excess of light speed; and weapons developed to the point of being able to destroy solar systems. But four days after activation, I have to come back and æflip the switchÆ on all my existing extractors again. Questionable. As much as I like being chained to my keyboard for another in-game reason, ôPlanetary Reactivation Clickingö time would probably be better spent sitting in an ice field.
