Looking to branch out into being able to use a stealth bomber. I am a pretty new player and I am looking for a few tips.
1) What fit is best suited for a general stealth bomber thats prob running solo as not in a corp. Thinking of pirate hunting in low sec. Basically what torpedo launcher is best fit and support fittings. 2) What other support skills should I learn in addition to the pre-requisites of flying a stealth bomber.
I am Amarr so I think its the purifier that I will be flying.
Also any advice on generally being a sneaky git will be of great help. Had enough of just mission running and want to go into pvp as a hunter/killer stealther.
Thanks for reading.

stealth bombers sound really cool, but in reality they are not the best ship for solo PVP. Even less so for the lower SP player. I suppose it can be done, but a more prudent choice would be step into a BC (harbinger) or cruiser (arbitrator) if you are intent on staying Amarr.
This is a really good guide on how to use a solo bomber, but I would caution you, if this is your first foray into solo PVP, there are much easier/cheaper/better ways to do so.

Edited by: Savondis on 04/07/2010 21:34:38 Unfortunately you can't use bombs in lowsec, which reduces the stealthbomber to a paper thin torpedo platform in that range of space. Not that great by itself, especially solo. It really shines when used in a fleet of bombers, as demonstrated in the recent alliance tourny matches.
There are success stories out there of the solo bomber, but the practical advice on it would be to find a corp that focuses on bomber fleets and cloaky ops in general like dirt nap squad. Otherwise it'll more than likely end up being a travel tool at best.
*Edit* That said, it's not a bad idea to have cov ops trained and available to you as it does unlock the cov ops prober ships as well, which are very useful, and the amarr verion the Anathema is one of the best out there I think.

I have popped many of frigates on my stealth bomber alt. Its all about lining up correctly at the gate, firing and warping off lol. I'm on my mobile device now, ill try to get you some killmail links when I get home. Trust me, solo bombing is possible but only against frigates really...sometimes a cruiser if feeling risky

Purifier is an excellent choice, in my opinion its the best ship for soloing. However you must know what your targets are. Careful target picking is very important for survival, so engaging cruisers or some BC (Hurricane) can turn into your death very quickly. I would recoomend you to fit a bomber with a point, tank, only torps and go hunt ratting BS/BC with that, they pop very easily at least in the north, where no EM resistances are fit to PvE ships.

Stealth Bombers are not built for solo PvP work, and it takes much skill, experience, and selecting the right target to have any real success.
Disadvantages:
1) Once you uncloak, you are an easy target. Your flying in what is effectively a "failtank" Frigate. Attempts to put a "Tank" on a Stealth Bomber usually fail. Your best defense is Stealth, your Cloak is your tank.
2) A Stealth Pilot must approach PvP in a way that is divergent from normal PvP. You can't hang around, tackling your target with scram or disruptors will get you targeted and killed. You have to think in terms of "hit and run", launch and disengage quickly. Don't stop and fight, YOU WILL LOSE!
3) Many make the mistake of mounting MWD's, when AB's give you a better chance of survival. MWD's increase your signature, making you easier and quicker to target. Once your targeted you can no longer cloak. And even with MWD's you cannot outrun your victim's Rails/Guns/Lasers/Missiles. You desperately need to be able to cloak after you launch your torps.
4) If you don't kill your target outright in the first volley, they probably won't be around waiting for you to line up another torpedo run. If your target is a hauler with only 1 gun, you might want to risk a second volley before cloaking, but that is if your absolutely sure he doesn't have friends around. If your Hauler victim target's you and you don't kill 'em really quick, you'll be dead.
5) If you haven't got it yet, in a Stealth Bomber, Targeted = Tackled.
Advantages:
In a small group, Stealth Bombers can "Wolf pack" a solo BS with devastating effect.

Well, you can either listen to old Buck-up here, or you can take my advice... Go try both for yourself.
Bombs don't work in Lowsec, ya have to go to Nullsec to use them. If you get Targeted you can't cloak. Make sure the lone ship is truly alone and not bait.

just gotta drop my reply here.
I recently started practising with solo stealthbombers and the hardest part is the searching and waiting.
so far I have lost 3 stealthbomers cause I picked wrong targets (bombing a large HAC fleet a zealot wich was pulse fitted not beam and something else :P) but if you can control your trigger finger and can wait sometimes for a long long time (being the AFK cloack *** most of the time) you can get nice kills.
I have stumblled uppon 1 offline pos so far resulting in 2 pos mod kills
a salvage cruiser a raven (ok that one was 2 bombers) and a armageddon
so it is hard but not impossible

I second the patience thing. I had a Manticore until last night when I got impatient, attacked a nice target near a gate but forgot I was in .5 space /boom
It's definately fun to fly though. Very fun being cloaked and watching people and letting them know that you're there but they can't see you. Then you let a few torps go and book it. If you don't kill them in the first volley, you are in mortal danger if you aren't already warping.
Align/Activate dampers/weapons/decloak/target+fire (can't target when cloaked, can't cloak when targetted) /start warp
