I am kind of frustrated, but I think it's only out of ignorance to the higher-end stuff in Eve. I spent several months training Amarr battleships, large T2 pulse lasers, and most of the Core Competency - Standard skills. [I have a little over 12 million SP, 5 million in gunnery and the rest in core competency skills and spaceship command.]
The problem is, my corp lives in Gallente space, so my lasers are doing crap damage against the NPCs on missions here, because I can only do EM/thermal damage with my lasers. I can't just fly over to Amarr space and start doing missions for their corps because it will apparently screw up the corp standings in terms of their placing a highsec POS.
I want to move to 0.0 and do something where my skills can be used to their full potential. (Not to EFT warrior, but EFT shows my current fitting to be a little over 700 DPS, 130K EHP, about 40K armor HP, with 70% or better omni-resists on armor, to give an idea of where about my skills are putting me - I can also competently fly a PvP Dark Blood fitted Bhaalgorn).
My main issue with that is, I don't know what Abaddons are primarily used for in fleets in 0.0 (or if they're used at all). I really like the idea of small-gang/large fleet PvPing (not piracy, just pitying fools that are fair game or war enemies).
If any Amarr flying pilots can give me some ideas on how they use their Amarr battleships (in PvP/0.0 fleet op situations) or the types of corps I should be looking at, or any other helpful comments, information, or encouragement from other successful Amarr pilots, I'd really appreciate it.
I'm on the verge of retraining to Minmatar or Caldari, since it seems more socially acceptable and widely desired, but I'd really like to just stick with Amarr if I can find a way to be useful to some corp in a combat setting. Thanks for taking the time to read this post. |

Just find a 0.0 corp that lives in a region where Sansha or Blood Raider NPCs are found. Then you'll be in high demand :) --- SOMER Lotteries - http://somer.idiofx.com/ SOMER Escrow Services: Third-Party |

Don't be discouraged!
The larger Amarr ships are very, very deadly for pvp in medium and larger gangs. Anyone who has taken broadsides from an Abaddon with 8x tachyon 2's knows this to be true.
What you will have a lack of is maneuverability. The larger amarr ships aren't terribly good for fast moving, small gangs (as a member of or fighting against). If you are more stationary (gate camps, warping on top of targets, not fighting speed fits), then you'll be just fine. As with most other large ships, it will come down to the support you get from the rest of the fleet. If you have good tacklers slowing down your targets so they can be hit with the big guns, you'll be very satisfied with the damage you can dish out from large laser turrets.
Yes you only do em/therm damage, but it's not that bad. You will crush shield tanks, but you will do less on armor. You really have to push the gunnery skills to get over the damage hump, but once you are up there you'll be quite happy melting people with the large lasers. Additionally you have unlimited ammo and can swap optimal ranges instantly, and you'd got pretty good tracking. Just make sure all your pvp boats have 3 or 4 different crystal sets, so you are always firing in optimal range.

Having the skills to fly something and the knowledge to fly it well are very different things. I would suggest leaving the Bhaal in the hangar until you don't need to make posts like this anymore.
In response to your question: find a new corp. You obviously don't like the direction of your current one. If you want to be out in .0 then find a corp that's recruiting and get out there.

I personaly think the abaddon is a great pvp ship when used in a spidertank gang, it resistance bonus gives it high ehp and requires less reping to replace that ehp then other ships due to it having more ehp per armor hitpoints. I do however see a lot more armegeddons, but that is mainly due to their much lower pricetag.
As far as missions go I myself fly a paladin and find that angels missions take long then the rest due to them having higher em and thermal resists. You can try to ofset this by using minmatar drones to do some explosive damage but your going to be most effective in amarr or ammatar space where you go against a lot of sanshas and blood raiders.
If you must crostrain another race consider gallente as their ships will benefit a lot from your existing armor and gunnery skills,

The Bhaalgorn comment was more about showing the higher end side of where my skills are limiting me. I wasn't trying to make some statement beyond that. Leaving the corp was a given already, I'm just looking for direction on what people in my skill path are doing and what kind of corps I should be looking for with my skills.
The hard part about 0.0 corps is having no idea on the nature of the politics and alliances and things to avoid/look out for. That and finding one that is willing to use my character and give me a chance to ask the stupid questions and learn without fear of getting raked over the coals for it.
Thanks for the other posts so far on here. At least I can see now that it's a perfectly long-term viable path and that I'm not wasting all of this time training. The hard part is going to be matching myself up with a corp. |

Like any corp, you're going to start on the bottom rung until you gain the trust of those already established in the corp/alliance. So the politics of 0.0 alliances will not be of your concern. However, you should be on the lookout for how the corp/alliance is going to treat YOU.
Some things to look for:
- Are they a "Pet" corp ("renter") or a major player in that part of space? Pet corps tend to be a tad restricted in what they can and cannot do within a given area. They also tend to be focused more on making ISK over anything else.
- Does the corp/alliance have a policy regarding buying ships/modules? This is very important as 0.0 market prices can be super inflated compared to empire prices.
- What kind of rats/plexes/ores are in the area and what are you rights (or your corp's/alliance's) to them? Some sovereign holders can be a bit anal about who gets to rat/plex/mine and where. And some ships will be better geared towards killing certain rats over others.
- How is the corp/alliance organized and how are the people in it? This is the most important question in my opinion and one that is dictated entirely upon your tastes. Some corps/alliances will be super strict while others will be more blase about things. The people are also a factor as well. Generally you want to find people who are nice enough to answer your questions and generally be helpful and friendly.
In my case... I met many very, very nice people in 0.0 who were helpful. Rather, it was the structure that put me off. At the end of the day, you need to find some place that will allow you to have fun. _______________________

In the 0.0 fleets I've been in, Caldari are the least desirable. Amarr has a lot going for it:
1) They are armor tanked, which most large BS fleets are armor logistics. 2) lasers have a great optimal range, and some ships even have even greater bonuses to range 3) You don't need to carry around 20,000 rounds of ammo everywhere you go 4) Lasers strike fast and hard.. by the time a missile boat's missile gets halfway to a target it is usually dead. You get to actually do damage and get killmails vs the ravens that only hit things with their target painters.

Actually, you can just fly over to Amarr space and start doing their missions. Just don't do faction missions, and don't do storyline missions. This will be a little bit of a pain until you have enough standing for level 3 missions, but it's not that big of a deal, really. Running level 4 missions, you will pull faction missions only very occasionally.

Don't worry about the politics or about asking questions. Find a good, established corp in Sansha or Blood Raider 0.0 with members you get along with. Most experienced players enjoy answering 'stupid' questions as it gives them a chance to show off hard-won knowledge.
The statement above about pets/renters is mostly true. It makes these corporations/alliances the perfect place to get your feet wet in 0.0.
Until you leave your current corp you can run missions in Ammatar space. Ammatar Fleet never gave me missions to kill another race's navy and most missions are against Sansha....perfect for your ship choice. No real drain on your corporation's standings.
