I like my Retribution, aint tried it on missions but I'd imagine it does good. 8x damage mod on my med pulse II, packs a punch and tanks good aswell. ------------------------------------------

Yes, you can do any level 3 mission in almost any assault frig.
The Harpy/Hawk are great. The Retribution looks pretty solid as well, Amarr-wise.
The Minmatar af's don't seem to have enough firepower to do them quickly though I'm sure it'd be fine.

Edited by: Tau Stone on 18/12/2004 02:00:44 There is no 'best' - this is the beauty of Eve.
I use a Wolf with 4x280 IIs. Over 12xDamage Mod and EMP ammo, frigates go down fast and cruisers don't take long either. If the cruisers are firing missiles, you can fit a rocket launcher with defenders in the fifth high slot, used in conjunction with a Small Armor repairer II and the high armor resistances, the missiles don't pose too much of a problem. |

i used my Harpy with 4x 150mm Proto Rails, Med SB II, Tracking Comp, 2 Cap Rech, & 2 Mag Stab II for a couple of level3 missions, and had no problems, it isnt hugely defensive though, so i guess it would be fairly easily swamped by lots of ships, although most frigs rarely survive 2 volleys :p

Well, there is no "best" but the Enyo rocks for lvl3 missions. I've done all of them in one so far, no real problems. It's not 100% risk-free, but would be boring if it was. Now that defenders actually work, a rocket launcher full of them can do wonders in cutting down missile spam.

Follow this rule.
Assault frigs are made of two kinds. The PvE kind, and the PvP kind. The PvE kind usually has more speed, firepower and armor than the PvP kind, which has more mid slots. Use the PvP kind for actual person battles. This includes the Ishkur, Vengeance, and Jaguar. Oddly enough the Caldari assaults---Hawk and Harpie, can work well for both PvP and PvE kind due to the large number of midslots.
The kind of assault frig you choose depends on the rat you plan to engage in. Certain assaults favor certain rats. Here is a short breakdown.
Retribution (Amarr) Best Use against Minmatar Navy, Terrorist and Freedom Fighter rats, Angels, and Rogue Pirate Escorts. Examples of these L3 missions with such rats include both the Pirate Extravaganza, Stop the Thief, and the deadspace Damsel in Distress missions. Hawk/Harpie are secondary choices for such missiosn.
Wolf (Minmatar) Best Use against Amarr navy, Khanid Navy, Blood Raiders and Sansha rats. Enyo is a good secondary choice for these rats.
Enyo (Gallente), Harpie/Hawk (Caldari) Best used against Gallente Navy, Caldari Navy, Serpentis, Guristas, Mordu. Retribution is second choice.
Mercenaries are touchy---they use all forms of damage.

In my opinion Assault Frigates are better of with Afterburners. They provide enough speed now, and dont cripple your cap. Cap is life after all, especially if you want to rely on your tank. The spare grid can then be used to put some more guns on. Guns are good...
