What do you think, guys?
Free to play MMOG. Looks pretty decent, well the fighting doesn't seem to involve anything special but...I think we have a space MMO that might steal a few Eve players. I'm gonna test it at least.
Any game that is like Freespace 2, I would love a long time. Best space game I have ever played. Along with Tachyon and Starlancer.

I dont think it will "steal" EVE players in general for long as it wont have the depth they are used to although I can see EVE players sort of supplementing thier internet spaceship fix, maybe even some player groups will get together and have some fights much the same way as you get someone in corp or alliance chat say "hey lets go play some MW2"
Blackprophecy being free to play will definitely appeal to some free space 2 and freelancer multi player communities who never really got into EVE, most of those communities don't really have any servers or anything anymore and a F2P direct twitch control space shooter is something they have been hoping to see for quite a while.

what is the limiting factor in BP that makes a paying member better than a non-paying member?
in some games ive played this involves a fuel that ticks up all the time, but you can microtransaction to get more of it, or perhaps that 'higher tier' weapons cost microtransaction money..
what is it like in BP?

"It's true that we will earn money from the sale of virtual items in BLACK PROPHECY (as opposed to through subscription fees, selling the game in stores, or through advertisement). Besides the obvious advantages (you get to play an online game and can see its quality with your own eyes without making any sort of financial commitment), the motto here is "time is money". We're taking a lot of care to make sure that you play as long as you want to WITHOUT spending any money. That means that you have access all game content, can complete every mission and conquer every player if you invest enough time to level your character up and collect or upgrade all the items needed. This is the case with a number of our other games, because, unlike at other game companies, you've often find players at the top of the rankings that haven't spent any money to get there. Exactly how this will work is still in design, but players that buy items will not gain an advantage, they will just save time. This is especially designed with players in mind that work during the day and therefore don't have time to play for hours each day but would still like to be able to keep up with their friends or their clan. "
tl;dr: Buying items that can still be achieved through not paying.

Would prefer a game more in the style of Elite personally.

F2p = failure. I'd rather play APB once that goes F2P.

Not always a failure for the dev company though, there are many F2P game developers that are making many millions in profits by going this route.
