Surrounded by metalheads and hip-hop lovers everywhere! Please tell me there are some people in my boat - I don't want to feel alone!
So - Explosions in The Sky? maudlin of the Well? Mono? Bon Iver? The Antlers? British Sea Power? Sigur Ros? Arcade Fire? (<-- Probably the best known here)
Anyone?
*PS Currently hooked to listening to '1979' over and over and over again

Hi, I heard you wanted some more post-rock.
I love post-rock. I'll list several artists and albums I think you should listen to. They're all pretty (very) different but are often bundled into the same genre. Some hate that, some are ok with it. If it's not post-rock it's probably 'contemporary classical' but not really.
Post-rock, Math-rock, 'contemporary classical' (read: post-rock).
Mono - Hymn to the Immortal Wind ++++++++++++++++ This Will Destroy you - This Will Destroy You (if Explosions had a rival it would be this band) God is an Austronaut - All is Violent, All is bright Balmorhea - Constellations Balmorhea - All is Wild, All is Silent 65daysofstatic - One time for all time (math rock) Beautiful. 65daysofstatic - fall of math (math rock) Crazy. Always the Runner - I must stop making plans Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift yr. skinny fists like Antennas to Heaven! My Education - Sunrise ++++++++++++++++++ Yndi Halda - Enjoy eternal bliss +++++++++++++++++++ The Autumn Project - This We Take With Us This is Your Captain Speaking - Eternal Return The Album Leaf - An Orchestrated Rise to Fall ++++++++++ The Album Leaf - Into the Blue Again
Not post-rock but should interest you nonetheless:
Kettel - My Dogan The Flashbulb - Soundtrack to a Vacant Life The Flashbulb - Mourning Louisiana The Flashbulb - Arboreal Benn Jordan - Pale Blue Dot kashiwa Daisuke - Program Music II World's End Girlfriend - Hurtbreak Wonderland Eluvium - Similes Eluvium - Copia Johann Johannsson - Fordlandia
Indie rock...
Stars, The antlers, Efterklang (Magic Chairs, the other albums are ambient/post-rock), Of Montreal, Animal Collective, As Tall as Lions (self titled), Beirut (anything), Entertainment for the Braindead, Fanfarlo, Fleet Foxes, Mute Math, School of Seven Bells, Say Hi, Tokyo Jihen - Adult [if you're into Jazzy rock.. japanese, though), Yeasayer.
Ok, I'm done. Have fun.

If you like post-rock, you may also like to check out post-metal, such as the bands Draco posted above, or the band that codified the genre: Isis and their superlative Oceanic.

You lucky bastard, I never got to see them live
Isis is also one of my all time favourite bands, but the only time they came to play to my city was back in February, and I only learned about it after it happened... and then they go and announce they are breaking up....
... but at least I got to go see a resurrected Kyuss live a couple weeks ago!
(well, technically it was John Garcia plus three other dudes playing Kyuss, though at the Hellfest Festival he played some songs with Brant Bjork and Nick Oliveri)

i saw them several times actually, beginning in 2000 when they were touring on Celestial which was the first full length. Also saw them on the last tour. So I guess you could say I saw the beginning and the end, yeah yeah, crappy pun but true none the less.
By far the best was seeing them at Wicker Park fest in Chicago though in 2008 I think it was. They were the last band so it was dark out by then. The stage was in the middle of a closed street, and the whole area was illuminated with this eerie yellowish lighting. People were lining the tops of all the neighboring buildings and after they started it got really windy. It was a totally surreal experience. beyond amazing; probably most memorable show I've ever seen. Oh yeah and Red Sparowes was right before them.
