Now, Genius is nice and all, but is it possible to stop it automatically updating itself every frigging time I launch iTunes? I don't change my library at all, and then have to wait 3min for Genius to finish sending my library info to Apple, and then wait for Apple to return some other info. The only reason I'm using this program is I have an iPod ><
thanks all... anyone know an alternative to iTunes for an iPod? -------------------

Download the music with your favorite bittorent program/tracker. Transfer it over.
No problem.

Why do people put up with Apples crap... its beyond me.
You are actually using a proprietary program that forces you to jump through hoops to play basic music.

Wrong. Don't make up stuff.

Maybe, but there's no truth in what was said above. There are no "hoops" to jump through if you're using it as a player like anyone else.
Though I'll bite my tongue if you're talking about music purchased through the iTunes store. That's a component that I ignore completely, I purchase my music elsewhere.

You do realize you paid 5x the amount it would have cost you to buy a regular old mp3 player that can be used with a number of other programs out there.

haha, yes, I do. however, it was a gift, and I'd feel like I insulted the giver if I sold it...
Anyway, thanks for the replies all, looks like it's either all or nothing with Genius. -------------------

I resisted iPods for ages because of that very same line of thought. I tried about 9 different MP3/media player devices. Finally went to iPods and saw what all the fuss was about. You're not just buying into a hunk of plastic that plays stuff with those, they really do everything in the best way possible. It may not be for everyone, but it's definitely changed the way I manage and listen to my music in wonderful ways. There's a lot of nifty features for what I guess you'd call "power users" too. (IE - amazing what you can do with "Smart Playlists", though I'm sure someone else has something like that in their apps now too).
Short version: I used to think the same, then found out I like iPod better than the rest

Fixed it for you.
I've said in other posts before I'm an Apple user, I have a 15" MacBook Pro that I use for general pc gubbins and a Win 7 box for gaming, I also have an iPod Touch but I use Foobar on my Windows box, I just don't like iTunes, plus genius isn't really worth using.

I use iTunes and I have no problems with it. It does everything I want it to and nothing I don't want. Granted I won't touch the iTunes store with a ten foot pole, but I still find the program fairly intuitive.
Keep in mind i'm no apple lover. The only apple products I have are my iPod and iTunes. As far as I can tell, they have nothing else i'm even slightly interested in buying. ~ CURRENT INTERNETS = + 47113 |
