It's an analysis on Blizzard's approach to the whole thing. It's a very brief piece (imo) probably due to the intended audience and limitations, but there are several key similarities that can be taken away as good lessons to keep in mind. |

Well, calling it "Real ID", a name used for a government program that was also extremely unpopular, didn't help.
Are the WOW forums that bad that they wanted to resort to such a thing?

From skimming the forums for some time before and during the incident, it has nothing wrong with it, that proper moderating couldn't easily fix. It looks to me, that they wanted to do it for other reasons and the forums was used to get the customers to swallow the bitter pill.

Can't we just send them Applebabe? It sounds like they need jackbooted mods to quell the more naughty of their ranks, but this RealID thing seems stupid, and another RL death over a friggin virtual sword incident just waiting to happen.
