Rawls Canardly	Posted - 2010.07.16 12:04:00 - [1] Ah, yes, the oft-overlooked Navy Caracal, and Cerberus. Both have similar slot configurations (6 mid 4 low, the Caracal having 6 highs/6 launchers and the Cerberus having 6 highs/5 launchers) WELL. I took a moment to review the differences, and the results are staggering. The Navy Caracal outperforms the Cerb in all areas. If fit identically, the only thing the Cerb excels at would be range... everything else, I'm afraid, falls flat. DPS- The Cerberus has one fewer launcher bay, and no drones. I suggest adding that sixth launcher to even it out a bit... or upping the bonus. TANK- With the current rig-slot configuration, there is no solution. The Navy C. simply outperforms the Cerberus. I suppose the Cerberus may be a better fleet configuration, but even so the Navy Caracal outperforms it in any comparable fitting. SPEED- Navy C has nearly 200m/s more with a MWD. RANGE- Cerberus wins this one, but at what cost? Heavy Assault Ships are supposed to be skull-smashingly powerful, and from my understanding the Navy model is supposed to be somewhere between T1 and T2. Unfortunately, in this case, it is BETTER than the T2 equivalent. Add that sixth launcher, up the raw shield HP to equal to the Navy model (the shorter recharge time and natural T2 resists will balance it out in the favor of the Cerb), and all shall be right with the world. Just my .02 ISK.

Drones have limited use on long range missile ships. If you don't include the damage from them it does less damage than the Cerberus (due to the nature of the double damage bonus). Even with the drones the damage gain is almost none. No one said faction ships should be inferior to HACs, in many cases they are not (the pirate faction ships, for example). The CNI is also quite harder to fit due to the sixth launcher, while still doing in basically all situations less damage than the cerberus, having identical ehp (but with a worse resist spread) and less range as well. Less targeting range too...

yani dumyat Minmatar Black Storm Cartel The Orca Syndicate	Posted - 2010.07.16 13:35:00 - [6] Different tools for different jobs, the extra range on the cerb creates a 100km frigate exclusion zone and because of the velocity bonus and quicker lock time missile flight time becomes less of an issue. Even with AML's the DPS at 100km is comparable to that of other sniper hacs and with heavies it will out DPS any cruiser at 100km+. The CNI can't do this with AML's and fitting heavies with 3 BCU's is hard so you end up with a ship that's faster than the cerb but applies less DPS. You can fit velocity rigs and an extra sensor booster to get similar utility out of the CNI but you'll gimp your tank completely. Where the CNI shines is solo or in smaller engagements, it can evade gate camps far more easily than the cerb and with a split weapons system (3 AML + 3 HAM + 3 drones) can take down any frig, most T1 cruisers and some T2 cruisers. The cerb is a great ship, excellent dps with high alpha dmg; you don't HAVE to sit at 100km, try 40-50 or even 70, the lag time is hard to notice a bit closer given the high speed of the cerb's missiles. Never properly tank a cerb, it simply can't do it that well; just fit a basic buffer on it and kite stuff, if mean looking ships start wondering your way, warp to another bm in the fight or burn away from them and let the missiles do their work. Im using a CNC as a Long Range missile boat atm, i sit 60-70km out an just shoot hvys at targets my gangmates mayhave pointed.
