first
thanks for the blog!
again, we players may not necessarily agree with CCP on everything but blogs like this that at least help to clarify things are always appreciated
--- Players are losing faith and loyalty in CCP due previous expansions not living up to player expectations. The CSM and CCP agreed that expectation management can be improved |

Ok, so how about you devote 0.5-1 team from the total of soon to be 20 scrum teams to deal with CSM requests? And also plan resource allocation accordingly ofc.

Quote: In the 2011 winter expansion weæll certainly focus more than ever before on iterating and polishing up all the features that EVE has expanded to in the then eight years.
So is this a subtle nod that EVE will be "feature complete" by then? As in, Incarna is the winter 2010 or the spring 2011 expansion? Also will we have to wait till winter 2011 to get rockets/assault frigates fixed?

Thanks for this Zulu, very much appreciated to get some clear insight into what you guys are devoting resources to and what features are eating them up.

Neat stuff, nice to get an update on the future of eve, and to see where resources are being allocated for game development.

Quote: Incarna (9 teams, approximately 70 developers)
In-space features (3 teams, approximately 22 developers) (feature team, the mission design team and an art/effects team)
EVE Gate (1 team, approximately 10 developers)
And you don't see how the players of EVE (a game about spaceships) might object to your resource allocation?

Cheers for the info. The little tidbits like these help placate the 'CCP ate my babies' crowd, but ...

I could not agree more. But the question is: does CCP realize what part of this process is 'broken'?

Wish you luck as this is impossible. I dont see you fixing COSMOS + FW + t3 + tons of other stuff in just one expansion. Whatever you do will probably just touch a tip of the iceberg.

It seems to me:
Incarna (9 teams) Dust (1 team) Core (3 teams): Eve Online (6 teams): - Fleet Lag/Automation Testing - Fleet Lag/Cowboy Coders - PVE Feature Team - Mission Design Team - Art Team - Evegate
HIRING 2 MORE TEAMS!! We need people with $speciality
I think that properly addressing the things brought up by the CSM minutes might involve disclosing where the 7 teams on loan for Incarna came from - and potentially what type of content they could be working on (3 feature teams, 4 art teams from Eve Online for example). But in my "infinite wisdom", I'd like to ask: - Have you considered offering bonuses for "small fry" fixes (like a new Cyno effect or a FW plex rebalance) that get done in someone's spare time? - Have you considered telling us just how much work goes into 'fixing' something simple like rocket explosion velocity/radius? - Have you considered asking the PVE Feature team to look at Faction Warfare as a way to get "engaging group content"? - Have you considered asking the Mission Design team to iterate over Faction Warfare/Plexes? - Have you considered asking the Art team to work on some of the stuff brought up by the CSM?
My previous post was better. I wish you hadn't deleted it.

This blog confirms that CCP isn't doing anything substantive to fix the game until 2011.
Thank you for the update.
Further, how can you be surprised at the minutes when CCP reviewed and approved them prior to publication?

Incarna, Dust, Eve-gate : 11 Teams, 87 Devs.
Actual in-game content: 3 Teams, 22 Devs.
Riiiiight....
Well I resubbed at the beginning of the summer, I hate to say it but with this attitude I'll play til November when a certain other MMO's expansion comes out, play that for a year then maybe come look at Eve. This post basically says the actual game will resume _real_ development in 2011, right?

Nice to see where and how all of CCP's resources are assigned.
Also great to see that CCP are aware of the issues with the CSM.
Hopefully will see great improvements with EVE and communication with the CSM.

CCP Zulu: What weære doing is unheard of in the gaming industry, namely linking together a console FPS (MMOFPS) with a classic PC MMORPG. Let that sink in for a minute. CCP is the first company in the world to do something like this.
I dislike this, I dont have a console and I will never get one. yet with this if I understand corectly console players will be able to attack my stuff and the ONLY option i have for defence is hiering other console players ?

Quote: To achieve our goal of EVE being a complete sci-fi experience we must have full body avatars.
I am probably in the minority, but since I started playing Eve Online last month I found the lack of an avatar to be a complete blessing. I have spent 5+ years playing City of Heroes, and I loved it, but man was I tired of watching my characters' butts all the time.
It is true that "complete sci-fi experience" dictates the need for some sort of avatar-based UI for some things, but would it not also mean a new/better UI that is less 3D-space oriented? More schematic, more functional? The current 3D UI is really kind of silly since you can't actually steer and use the 3D in obvious ways. It sure would be a lot easier to program and easier for players to work with.
This kind of dev blog went a long way to assuage similar problems with COH years ago. Their main problem was a lack of funding for polish, integration, balancing. That was eventually fixed when NCSoft bought it from Cryptic. CCP doesn't seem to have the same kind of problem, so I think current players can be a bit more hopeful that Eve will continue to improve.

Disappointing to see 70 people working on a feature I'll end up using once. But hey, if you add furry costumes to avatars I'm sure you can pull over some people from second life or playstation home. :p

Cashing in on Twilight IP by abusing WoD is more important then supporting your flagship game I guess. Honestly can't blame them for going where the money is...
