Hello all. I am about 4 months old in this game, and not sure where I should go with my character. I am entertaining 1 of the following. Where would you recommend I go first:
1) Max out learning skills 2) Go for Hulk/Orca. . will have Covetor in a few days 3) Max out frig skills for casual PvP(Gallente soldier) 4) Go for Battle Ship and max up drone skills (for lvl4 missions)
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time.

why are you asking random people on the forums to tell you how to play the game? All of those options are very different so it comes down to what you want to do with your character.

I'm asking for opinions/suggestions. This doesn't really help me.

ok train mining skills because mining sucks and I want you to hate the game.
How should I know what you want to do when you don't even know?

If you are still just 4 months into the game, I'd recommend the following:
- Learn skills to 4/3/4 at least or 5/4/5 if you can stand it. Payoff time for 5/5/5 is debatable for where you are in-game. - Mining is not worthless by any means, but you will have a very hard time making serious coin with just that on your only character. - Skilling through a progression of frigate->destroyer->cruiser->battlecruiser->battleship will lead to being able to blitz missions for quick cash occasionally and more importantly you can't PvP without combat skills. - 3's and 4's are sufficient at first up through BC. For the most part, train 5's only as necessary to fulfill pre-reqs for other skills and typically only when they are low rank skills. - Later as you become slightly more proficient, especially beginning at the BC level, putting some more time into fitting and cap skills will pay big dividends later across all ship types. Don't neglect getting some weapon-related skills and some tanking-related skills to a 4 before getting fit/cap skills to 5. - For L4 missions, T2 light and medium drones are damn-nearly mandatory. Some would argue, but you'll be happy if you do them. - Hulk is a good goal, but unless you intend to do a huge % of your time mining for spare cash while you do whatever else in IRL or on your computer, then I'd probably hold up on that goal for a number of months in favor of several other things.

Edited by: Jennifer Fenring on 21/07/2010 07:20:22 *.* Well we don't really know your current skillset and remappings do we? - Learning stuff to 5/4 is always a good start either way.
Anyway personally I'd recommend not to split your training between industrial and combat too much as it will slow both down. Skilltraining is already very slow if you focus on either one "career".
In your case (being me) I'd concentrate on combat skills and leave industrial for what it is. L4 missions are more profitable and arguable more fun/less semi-afk than mining. You can carry over your combat skills to PvP as well.
- I wonder if you have remapped yet. A good/fast way to progress is of course to remap int/mem and steam through learning and support, drone and nav skills and remap to full per/wil once they're done. But that's a game of patience as it takes some months.
