I was wondering if it was possible to hide my pos by anchoring thousands of secure containers and building a "igloo" type structure around my POS. So if i had the time and cans, would it be possible and would it offer any protection!?

You can not anchor cans within 2,500m of each other, so if anyone has cans turned off on their overview (as they should!) they will have no problems spotting you. In theory, it could be used to block large (capship-sized) ships from going through, but you would need a LOT of cans for that. And they can still warp off through them, unless you anchor the cans right on top of them or something.
(That would be an interesting idea: find an AFK/logged off capship, put 10 cans around it so that it can't move, ransom!)

Its not going to work, its a simple as that.
The overview can bet set to simply ignore the cans, they will target your tower, and all of the shots will go right by your cans into the tower. You would be wasting your time to anchor the cans, and the amount of cans needed to cover a tower would be so much they would likely be deleted by a GM well before you completed it.
The idea makes sense until you compare it to actual game mechanics. Cans will not block the shots or anything, in fact missiles and such will regularly go through solid objects on their way to their targets. You see this in missions all of the time. ____________________________________________ When going to a party with wine, women, and song. Always ascertain the vintage of the first two.
